Terrible decision by Versus to announce the result of Jones-Green. I purposefully stayed away from sports and boxing news all day so I wouldn't find out what happened, and they ruined it.
Did this happen to anyone else?
dans, you got screwed, bro. That sucks. Sorry to hear that.
But you're right. They could have shown the fight before the Hopkins match. The shit lasted 2 minutes, they could have shown it like 3Xs before they opened their big mouths.
I just hope you learned your lesson: Instant gratification > Delayed gratification.
Versus KO dans Round 1.
(Just kidding.)
Seriously. It was hard to stay away from boxing news for a day and they blew it for me in about 1 minute of the broadcast.
People who say "too bad" or "you're an idiot" are missing the point.
It's easy to say "too bad, you should know already", but you're not thinking about casual viewers and fans. If I'm a sports fan just flipping through the channels, there's a good chance they DON'T know what happened. Why would you alienate potential viewers by giving the results right away.
It would've taken 2 minutes out of the begininning of the broadcast to show the fight and you could have even shown it again after the Hopkins fight.
Some people here are saying "that's how they had it set up, to show the Jones fight last". Okay, but doesn't a network like Versus understand the idea of changing on the fly? Given the length of the fight, it was a massive blunder to reveal the result before everything began.
So all you people saying "too bad" or "stop crying", think before you talk.

did you seriously tune into a fight featuring a guy who was supposed to fight a guy fighting on the same day and not think they would mention what happened in that other fight?
They spoiled it for me too. I saw all the Roy Jones threads here last night and I decided to stay away from the forum until today so I could watch both fights one after the other. Then, when I turned on the Versus broadcast, they gave away the result.
For the people that are saying "too bad", you're idiots for not thinking before typing.
I was planning to stay away from all boxing websites today, but recently I set up a RSS feed from ESPN's boxing site to feed into my work email. so it was the first thing i accidentally saw this morning. haha
I would have been pissed though if I had waited.
I avoided the boards too and it was pretty annoying. They tried to pull a teaser to get people to watch until the end, but went about it the wrong way. They should have been vague about the outcome and that it was something "you just have to watch!"
Instead, they just went out and said Roy lost and THEN tried to be vague about it like you couldn't put 2 and 2 together and guess that he got KO'd in the 1st round with the way they were talking :lol1:
Heck, even show it first and then talk about it all you want! :pat:

Why would they give a shit whether or not you watch (or spoil) another TV Network's program.
Most, if not all of the viewers knew the outcome already. They were catering to their own TV audience, not someone else's.
HBO and ShowTime do it all the time to each other.
Both fights aired on the same channel.

ive seen the fight so i was cool but i feel your pain ts. however i dont think anyone could hold back their shock of the result and that's something they just couldn't keep themselves from talking about.
How can they not spoil it when Hopkins himself is going to speak on it immediatly after the fight?
They replayed the Jones/Green fight before the Hopkins interview.
They should have aired the Jones/Green fight before the Hopkins fight.
There are no "spoilers" in sports. This isn't a movie or pro wrestling. Versus did their job as sports journalists in reporting what happened. Are there "spoilers" in the news?

I already knew but thought it was kind of a joke that they kept talking about it.
Lets be real though. They never planned on RJ losing. That totally screwed them up. They already had it setup for him to come on 2nd. He's the bigger name star fighting in a bigger fight for a new weight class title and its in a different Country. All that is much more exciting than the Hopkins fight. Thats how they had everything setup the whole time so I think it through them off when he lost and they didnt know if they should make the RJ fight 1st or if they should speak on it or what. Also, they probably still wanted to have RJ last because everyone heard about it in the sports waves this morning and would want to watch it so you want it to headline regardless
I called my dad up and reminded him that the fights were on tonight like five minutes before it started and I made it a point to tell him that I wasn't going to spoil the results for him. The next thing you know, the announcing crews open their fat dirty traps. Cocksuckers.
NO offfence man but thats dumb. This is one case where you couldnt do that. Why would they not talk about the outcome when Hopkins & RJ have a bitter rivalry and were supposed to meet next? It makes no sense at all for them not to speak on it
The fight took two minutes to show. Why not just show it as the first thing real quick and then talk about it. Why would they show it last?
Versus does a good job, but I think they blew that one.
