I hate when these tall ass fools live on oatmeal to make weight in a division where they can use their over all length. You guys have no idea how much of an advantage it is when you have huge height and reach advantage against a similar level fighter. It is much harder to fight an opponent that you have to punch upwards with and that has alot of reach on you because you have to stretch out your body alot. Both Campbell and Guzman got exhausted fighting this fucking tree because the punching to get to his mummy looking ass is exhausting. Trust me ive been in the ring with the same size difference. And even when working the mits and my trainer is making me reach out like a mofo to hit the mits its exhausting. Lets see what funeka would do skill 4 skill. You can get 2 fighters in the ring with the same exact conditioning and stamina, but I guarantee you that the one with the 7 inch height advantage will have the upper hand. I commend Guzman for the heart he showed and for even taking the fight with this redwood. I would love to see what Funeka could do against a tall welter weight like Williams, they are both the same except Williams actually moved up to a formidable weight(because he was forced to, apperanlt all the welter weights that were 8 inches shorter than him were cowards for not fighting him). Guys like this dont trust their skill level enought to pair it up against some one with out a reach disadvantage.
Funeka aint $h!t if the HBO broadcast crew had stopped kissing his ass for 1 minute we could have appreciated a good close fight.

its not that hard fightin someone taller than u, it just means u got more space to hit em
You are correct on both counts!!!
Its OK to fight at 147 if he can make the weight, ut if he wants the Cottos, mayweathers of the division, he needs to eat the Clotteys the bertos and then Collazos, is simple as that!!!!
He tried to fight Clottey just here recently, and Clottey turned him down. Collazo was also offered a fight at one time and didn't want any. Dan Rafael even said he priced himself out. Berto's promoter Lou Dibella said he's too big to fight Berto. So what's a guy to do?
I am 6ft 2in and I am around 154lb, i am thin even when I lift weights I still look fairly thin. Funeka is clearly not big built if he went to say 175lb even though he is similar height to some in the division the extra weight on his thin bone structure would look awful and affect his performance.
He makes the weight and he LOOKS like the type that could eat a horse and gain a pound. Some people are just made that way.
No one ever tells a taller fighter to move up if his 'advantage' becomes a hinderance when people smother his arms/punches. Only if the guy uses his advantage correctly.
Why? Because, unlike speed or power, being tall is visible at ALL times. Therefore, people pick at it.
With the right style, a tall guy can have his advantage used against him rather easily. Guzman did it before the unintentional foul and Campbell did it throughout the fight.

If he can make weight then he should fight there. Not only can you believe he fought at 112 before?Guzman wins easly on the rematch if one happens the only reason Guzman did bad was because the broken nose and cut on the eye due to the headbutt and the layoff.
Everyone in boxing makes the lowest weight they can, to have the best chance they can. It's the nature of the sport. If you eat all the name time you stay at heavyweight, otherwise you get as low as you can possibly go.
Pwill is an exception in that he will never get a big fight at 154 or lower, so he should give up.
Ali Funeka fought his heart out twice recently, and was twice robbed of a hard earned victory. He's anything but a fraud.

Antonio Margarito. - You make the division's weight limit. You can fight in the division.
Crys Byrd - You squeeze your body to a division because you think you'll have the advantage. You get kayoed
Another dorky ass hater complaining about something that's perfectly legit and legal. Because he's 6'1 and has a naturally lean body, he should be forced to bulk up and fight at 154? Or Paul Williams should have to fight at 175? That's bullshit, and you are dumb for suggesting that what these fighters do isn't perfectly natural and acceptable.

I agree with u , its all deliberate.
So is it okay for Paul Williams to fight at 147 then? Oh, I know. He won't fight the contenders to get the shot at the big names.
cause he stuck on stupid when it comes to buliding your rep. being 6'1 with a 81 inch arm reach honestly don't mean shit if you got 1 loss :lol1:
Stab yourself in the face please!!!!!!!!!
If you make the weight, then you can fight at that weights imple as that!!!

that's a good point and for a guy like guzman who is a slick fighter that doesn't have a lot of power, fighting funeka was nearly impossible I mean he had to constantly put pressure on funeka and stay on the inside that was his only chance and that's pretty much the opposite of how guzman fights.
That is why what Leonard did in the first Hearns fight is so impressive, no one thought he was capable of walking down Hearns and fighting inside. That is why no matter how good a fighter is at one certain style if you can only fight in one way you will run into the wrong guy at some point, but if a fighter can do different things that problem is mitigated (atleast somewhat).
To me this is a key difference between very good and great fighters.
Paul Williams does not even really fight tall, he is basically an inside fighter which is why he gets hit clean so much. If Williams properly used his height he would be bascially unbeatable though at 147 because he can fight on the inside and is left handed.
Tall rangy dude, that can hit, can use his height, can actually fight on the inside and is left handed, that dude would be a nightmare for anyone in the history of the sport (if Williams actually properly used his advantage anyways).
This is a joke of a thread if two fighters with the exact same skill step in the ring the taller one wins, but the same can be said of the faster fighter, the stronger fighter, the harder hitting fighter and the fighter with the better chin. You fight to win and if you are willing to bust your ass in training and starve yourself you deserve the advantage. If the shorter guys were willing to starve themselves they could also make a lower weight class where they wouldnt have to fight giants.
That's not my point, though. Nate came in heavier and was able to put his ass down a couple times, it's proof that weight and not height is more important, IMO.
Nate not making weight helped. Also Did you hear that Funake was on weight a week before the fight so that he would not have to run in the cold?
