Eh? You serious man? Locche a nobody? So, who is somebody if he is a nobody? Oh, and calling someone else a fool without even knowing who you're talking about is a bit daft mate. It's Untouchable, not the Unstoppable. :lol1:
:nonono:
Any that calls Locche a nobody and then calls someone a fool for saying he is not and that he was easily one of the greatest defensive geniuses ever is just, well, ....
I don't even know. :dunno:
Stupid? I guess. But maybe ignorant is the more correct term.
i called him a fool because he thought i was talking about ezzard charles, if you'd read the posts you would'nt have come across as an idiot
way to go
the nobody i was talking about was the unstoppable
not charles, yet again you prove what a fool you are
i've told you before, i'll tell you again, seek some comprehension classes

No way, his opponents seemed slow.
Cervantez was slow? Ortiz was slow? Joe Brown was slow? Laguna was slow?
Geez man. Each one of those guys are some of the best ever to fight and not a single one of them could be considered even a little on the slow side. That's only a few that he fought too.
While Sweet pea is one of my favorite fighters of all time, and I lovedlovedloved him while he was fighting, I think Floyd has taken the defense to a new level.
If you watch Pernell, he doesn't get hit and can slip punches in amazing style. But at the time he does it, he shuts down his offense. Notice that every time Pea does that, he completely shuts down his O, and then comes back to throw punches.
Floyd does a better job at seamlessly integrating his O with his D. The pullcounters, the rollbacks with the hooks, etc.
Pea was dropped a few times. Including by Roger. Can you imagine Roger dropping Floyd?
None of it is new though. Everything Floyd does has been done before, often just as good, but mostly in very different styles and with different focuses on certain aspects.
Nothing Floyd does though is new. People need to get this through their heads. It has all been done before and just as good. Floyd is the best at it today, but there have been so many other fighters that use the same techniques in the history of boxing that to say he has taken defense to a new level is just silly.
The majority of fighters forty/fifty years ago all had better defense than nearly everyone fighting today not named Mayweather/Hopkins etc.
Go watch Andre Ward fight or go watch James Toney fight. They are both classic examples of guys that fight today how most fighters did forty/fifty years ago.
Also, the bolded part is untrue. When he went into super defensive mode, it was as a theatrical sort of plan. He used his defense as Jones uses his dancing or some shit. Watch Pea fight against Mayweather and he mixes up his defense and offense as cleanly as anyone ever has. It just depends on which Pea you were looking at. Sometimes he fought with only defense in mind, other times he fought with only offense in mind and other times he fought mixing both seamlessly. Mayweather fights the same way every time and doesn't play to the crowd like Pea did.
Locche was not a nobody, atleast he shouldn't be.
I have always said that Willie Pep was the greatest defensive fighter of all time while Locche had the best defense. There is a difference in my opinion. Pep was the most accomplished of all defensive boxers with only offensive threats such as Robinson, Greb and Armstrong rating above him.
But I've never seen a man as slippery as Nicolino Locche, neither did Ray Arcel who saw them all and worked as a trainer for the likes of Benny Leonard, Ezzard Charles, Larry Holmes and Roberto Duran.

i've seen all i have to on him, he was decent, but simply jabbing for 15 rounds, just does'nt take the cake for me, even if he was rarely getting hit, it was a great plan tho, against those fighters who just wanted a street brawl and did'nt bother moving their heads for anything
The poster you responded to has Ezzard Charles in his avater. And you called Charles a "nobody from the 60's". Now you want to get out of it. Maybe you'll learn to stop lying before you turn 19.
your a clown, are you seriously telling me what i was saying? shut the fukk up
Locche didn't have much offense to speak of. He was all defense.
The problem is that a lot of the footage is of 35-36 year old Locche when he was a flat-footed balding old man although he still excelled in making others miss. There's little footage of the quick 135 pound Locche in his 20's.
locche was'nt prime in his 20's, he got alot of gift decisions and drew alot
Then again Locche hardly ever moved his feet, yet he was rarely hit flush on the chin. And he protected his body extremely well too.
no doubt he'd need to protect his body consideirng he was a heavy smoker
Sucks when there ain't much footage. I found a HL a while back on Miguel Lora. This guy had good defense.
His defense and countering off the ropes reminded me of Wilfred Benitez.
But if Whitaker only concentated on making his opponents miss without an offense he could have done the same thing. It's much more difficult to avoid punches when you're throwing punches. Whitaker completely took away the offense from an offensive machine in Julio Cesar Chavez. And Azumah Nelson was never dominated like he was against Whitaker.

Lora is one of the forgotten defensive artists.

On a side note, thank you for the excellent highlight videos always come up with.

Whitaker may have made De La Hoya miss, but he was hit a ton on his standards in many of his latter bouts. The DLH fight was simply his last good performance.
They all get hit when they are past their prime. But whitaker at 135 and 140 was untouchable.
Great HL, I have to say his defense is better then I last saw. But what I'm noticing is (In those clips) Benitez, Whitaker, Mayweather can mix defense/ offense better. Can't judge based on a HL, I would have to see more for myself.

Think he could have made a young DLH miss the way Whitaker did? I can't see it.
Perhaps, perhaps not. But I also can't see Pernell Whitaker shutting out a Hall of Famer top 3 ATG 140 lber 15-0 as Locche did nor making a durable champion quit on his stool in frustration due to not being able to touch him.

willie pep was easily better
does posting some nobody from the 1960's with a black and white avatar make you seem like a boxing expert?

He made them appear slow.
Carlos Ortiz, Ismael Laguna, Antonio Cervantes, Adolph Pruitt were certainly not slow.
