Maybe some people forget how much a beast Cotto was at 140, weight drained and when he was healthy at 140. He was quick, strong and rentless. Look at this fight againest Kelson Pinto, Cotto was straight beast.
Even though he still has speed at 147, he looks like he lost a step or two since his 140 days. But he was a beast back in the day.
If Cotto beats Berto or Mosley pretty easy will that mean he is back? Not saying he'll ever beat Pacquiao.
cotto was never gone, he just isn't that great.
same cotto pac and marg whooped.
Cotto needs a new trainer, someone like Freddie Roach.
He has no ambition other than his own in preparing for a fight with the elites
Maybe its mental, maybe then when he was unbeaten and destroying everyone he believed his punches could level buildings.....as he moved up against WWs known for having good chins his power has not bailed him out and now he knows it can't always do that so not as much conviction in then in order to save something for the long haul.
You might be right. Would like to see him fight a good WW and have cotto destroy him like the good old days and that might pick him up.
Cotto was a mini Mike Tyson in that fight against Pinto. The left hook was a thing of beauty and that body attack was sensational. The thing is 147 pounders can take his punches much better and he has to box more. But in his best days at 140 Cotto was unstoppable.
One thing I notice in his last few fights is that Cotto doesn't have the pop or power he used to have just a few years ago,he doesn't have the body attack he used to have either and his face can't handle punches like it used to.
Cotto needs a new trainer and he needs to reinvent himself to a more safe boxer who takes less chances. His jab is still one of the best in the sport so he can pot shot off that.
150% correct
Punching power is the last thing to leave a fighter as he ages or becomes battleworn so Cotto's punching power never went anywhere in my opinion.
Cotto knocked down Joshua Clottey who is much larger than Pacquiao with a jab and had him stuck puttin up the earmuffs and rocked and backpedaled on several occassions so the punching power was there.
The difference i believe was Pacquiao's mental preparation and determination. Pacquiao was hurt on a few occassions in that fight and the post fight interviews and conferences tell the story. He looked worse than he did against Marquez at 130 taking less punches. Pacquiao just did an excellent job not showing it...coupled with Cotto not being able to keep pace speedwise took Cotto's will.
Yes Cotto punching power is still there that why Pac took some damage in that fight i agree with you, But he just doesnt have the Zap in his punches in the fight against Pac Maybe that was due to the punches he took from Manny which destabilise him but he looked like he lost the zap in his punches/jab in the pac fight.
cottos power is def. still there..i know it didnt look like much against pac but if you saw pac after the fight he was pretty banged up and he even said he doesnt know how much more of cottos body punches he couldve taken..sure hes been in some wars and they take a little piece of you each time but i think cotto isnt even close to finishing...cotto needs to get a new trainer and start over and come up with a strict game plan that will mesh with his abilities now...he knows what its really like to get beaten and lose now.(not cheated against and beat the hell up. but fair and square lose.)..now its time to destroy some people again.
Can you explain why his style is bad news for Floyd?
Please don't say his jab or pressure.
The left jab, and Cotto's pressure.
No, but seriously. During the DLH fight, Floyd would walk into the left jab with his face. Cotto has arguably the best left jab since Oscar. All this "Cotto's been in too many wars" nonsense is meaningless if he fights Mayweather. Cotto has no chance of taking a beating against Mayweather. Cotto has enough Defense to pick off Mayweather's potshots and enough speed to land left hooks in flurries. Cotto can win a decision on activity alone.
Flomo's will get butt hurt, but your boy is 70% skill, 30% hype and doesn't have the heart nor power to hurt an elite WW.
That's the reason I said at this level, he's fighting the very best, they're usually busier, faster and better boxers. His boxing skills are good but he trains at a slow pace when it comes fight nite and he picks up his speed he seems to get tired quick, could also be related to weight problems.
just depends on the fighter. Cotto went 12 with Malignaggi, Clottey and Mosley. Some of the very best and won because neither are pressure fighters or throw punches in bunches.
Mosley in particular didnt exactly show Margaritolike workrate even in defeating Margarito himself.
Taking nothing away from Pacquiao who i think is a beast and would have beaten Cotto at any time in cotto's career but Pac would not be walking through Cotto's shots like that if that if this was 2 years ago.
For me Cotto isnt fresh and i wouldnt pick him over Berto or Mosley at this stage of his career, Sometime you can take too much damage even when you win, Just like Pac taking some punches from Cotto might not help him if he had to fight Mayweather next.

I dont think it's so much a stamina problem as just bad style matchups for Cotto. He just has problems dealing with high workrates.
Same problem that Juan Manuel Marquez has problems with. Marquez had problems when Pacqiao, Chris John, and Juan Diaz upped the pace even though his conditioning is top notch.
Cotto has gone and won fights going the full 12 on several occassions. Just has trouble with fighters with a ludicrous pace. He had problems when Judah upped the pace. He had problems when Pacquiao and Margarito didnt let him set the pace.

Yet Mayweather never gets any credit for NOT taking that punishment. Instead they call him names. Like it's cool to take punishment like that. Very macho yes :hail::hail:
Well people like their own emotions get the better of them, I see a lot of Cotto KO judah and Mayweather could only beat him by decision but people forget that Judah put a lot of dent into cotto in that fight while Mayweather hardly got punished in his fight with Judah.

one of my fav Cotto fights. Cotto has improved his deffense and jab but needs to do something about that stamina, not sure if its weight related, all the partying catching up to him or what but at this level, been strong for 5 or 6 rds don't cut it.

Uhm well, Pinto wasnt that great to begin with tho....undefeated, yes, but against who? You can see here he doesnt have an harmful jab, sticks his chin in the air, often out of balance, wide arm punches, he only has a straight right but he looks afraid to throw it against cotto, hes not really precise.
Cotto, yes he was a bit faster, but the main difference is mental...when he gets hit here he doesnt care, he KNOWS hes gonna win. But still, as you can see here, he was getting hit A LOT, against a solid but nothing special fighter.
