Pretty Bold statement considering Sweat Pea is considered one the greats of the modern era.
His interview with Steve Kim can be found here, good listen btw.

I respect Bert so much cuz he knows his shit I don't care what nobody says. He can has knowledge about the old school. And, a lot of people here don't. But, I have to disagree with him. Whitaker IMO is top 15 while Pac is not even top 20.
bert sugar is a crazy old man.. an overrated historian of the sport.. making up bull shit like "sugar ray robinson ran from los angeles to new york in the matter of one day and fought for a championship later that night"
pac may have more accomplishments, sweat pea is a far superior fighter
Listen, greatness is driven by talent and defined by accomplishments. In this respect, Pacquiao has acomplished much more than Sweet Pea. Which is not to say that the latter did not have a great career of his own or is inferior in talent than Pac in any way shape or form. It just means Pacquiao has atteined higher plateaus and overcame more hurdles than Whitaker. I think Pernell's addiction shortened what could have been a much greater career.
lol....why would i be mad when bert sugar (the one that matters in history books)is the one giving pac praises?......youre the one who seem mad coz you cant do something about it....:boxing:
LOL....... He should argue to bert sugar.
yea fvck bert sugar & emmanuel steward. they dont know sh*t about boxing & boxing history.......
lets listen to people who post on the internet in a boxing website. They are the only real authority. Nobody gets ATG unless people who post in NSB say so.
& for that matter fvck IBHOF votes. Only poll votes in NSB count.
LOL.. If emmanuel steward and bert sugar has just said pacquiao shouldn't be an atg he needs to be a heaveyweight champion to be even consider in the atg list i think a lot of people here will agree and said wow steward and bert sugar knows their stuff and they will praise them. hahhahaha
you dont think pac's resume is better but bert sugar does......hmm, which one is more credible?......lol
This..
Bert Sugar opinion > anyone in NSB
dont get me wrong. I dont think that Pac kills sweatpea I think it would be a close fight. in pac favor.. and pac resume is just a little bit better..
he wasnt talking about defense was he? he was talking about who is the better fighter.
Even more than that he said greater, which includes accomplishments like "only 4 weight linear champ ever."
You didn't answer the question just as I knew you wouldn't. I'm done wasting my time. Sugar rated Dempsey as the best heavyweight ever. Get over it.
Not when he has two HWs ranked above him on his 100 greatest fighters list, sorry kid.
You also have to understand that when Sugar ranks "greatness," he factors in things like "impact on the sport." Dempsey pretty much single-handedly put boxing on the map.
Well for one it means he is taking into account Dempsey's diminutive size.

I also think Pacquiao is ahead of Whitaker...but if they fought, prime vs. prime, Whitaker beats him.
Just my opinion.
i'd have to agree. and how can you really compare resumes when they are from different eras? there was someone on here that posted a comparison in resumes and left out a whole lot more good fighters on sweet peas.
Ok genius, explain what it means then? This should be good.
Well for one it means he is taking into account Dempsey's diminutive size.
One could say Hank Armstrong was a greater pound for pound WW than Tommy Hearns. But he's not a greater or better WW overall.
Pound for pound means best fighter. Period, son. Why do you think they call Manny Pacquiao number one pound for pound? Because he's the second ,third, or fourth best? Get serious.
Pound for pound best HW doesn't mean best HW.
Are you really not getting this?
Plus, according to his Boxing's Greatest Fighters' list, he doesn't even rank Dempsey above Louis and Ali pound for pound.
I can't believe people really think Pacquiao ducked Nate Campbell. Wow.
co-sign homie....:boxing: i dont even think Campbell will last 3 rounds with Pacman at 140...:banghead:
