I mean seriously, biggest non-heavyweight draw. After a fighter fights De La Hoya, that boxer became a big PPV attraction, like Pacman and PBF. It's like he said it in one of the 24/7 episodes, "If you don't fight Oscar, you never been in the big stage." So, what makes him such a big attraction?
.Good looks
.Olympic Gold Medallist (so people already knew him before he turned pro)
.Ability to speak both Spanish and English (appealed to ordinary Americans because he was born and raised there, appealed to Spanish speaking peoples because he spoke their language)
.Very devastating and exciting fighter early in his career
.Nice guy, well spoken, fairly articulate
.Was marketed brilliantly by Top Rank early in his career
all those points are true, but he left one out:
-he always took on all comers alwayings wanting to fite only the best.

duh
he was the golden boy!
mexican-american, good looking, smart, charismatic, talented, gold medal winner, known among non-boxing fans, etc, etc...
like him or not, few boxers will ever achieve his popularity...
I doubt anyone will ever be as big as a draw as Oscar.
Stars are born, not made. Oscar is in the same league as Denzel Washington, David Lee Roth, Brad Pitt, Paul Mccartney, Michael Jordan, ect. In addition to their talent, they all have the looks and charisma to go with it.
and I mean, c'mon, who did jump out of their seat when he KOd Vargas!?

its the fact that he fought the best fighters and he looked like the man so...i think if everybody didnt have the illegal box back then the tito oscar fight would have had 5million ppv buys and no other fights would have come even close to approaching that
In my opinion:
*First of all he had a nice story: Young guy, who came from a tough neighborhood went to the Olympics, won the Gold medal and dedicated his medal to his deceased mother.
*Articulated.
*Every woman in the planet found him attractive, something rare in boxing.
*Speaks english and spanish.
*He has Mexican roots, and Mexico is well known for producing great boxers.
*Good boy image:polite, always smiling.

1. Represented the US in the Olympics
2. Hyped by the media before even turning pro
3. Good looks ( Brings the women fans )
4. Mexican American support
5. A Great fighter in his own right.

I agree. Oscar has accomplished something only a few boxers can and we should be very thankful of him for what he has done to the sport.

A combination of many things young, hungry, skilled and brought woman’s attention to the sport which almost guaranteed revenue from arena gates/televised networks. Though he was a prick at the negotiating table he was all smiles on camera and came across as clean-cut good guy for the sport. Hat’s off to him, he continues to bank off this past and present.
Peace.
