An overlooked classic revisited: How did you score Erik Morales vs. Diaz?

What bothers me about this is the fact that Morales will never win that title in a 4th weight division. That was truly his last hurrah and they denied him the right to achieve something he deserved. Arum is a hypocrite and although I can't tell whether or not he did it to favor Pacquiao in the future, I would not doubt it considering all the BS he pulled during the Cotto fight. It was painfully obvious that it was all about the money.

Looks like everybody thought Erik won the fight. I would like to see someone who thinks the opposite to compare the points of view.

although it was a close fight, imho very few have David winning the fight ... too bad that those few were the judges :D i had erik winning this fight and was saddened by the decision and thought that some rounds could have gone either way. but at the end of the bout, i do feel morales did enough to win. :(

I also think that Morales would have had another fight, maybe even try to get a belt at 140 but that would have been almost impossible for him to achieve. There's that saying about a great champion always having one last great fight left in him. I think this was Erik's and a magnificent way to retire, but politics are something else.

That's where the Morales story would lose luster. Erik should have retired right after without a title defense. He would have retired as a champion with nothing else to prove. yes he could retire but had he win, I am sure he would have fought on ...

i was in Baltimore watching the fight with my dad.. Diaz frustrated me since he was throwing a lot of punches but were not hitting anything.. he was aggressive but ineffective.. Morales even got the knockdown and still lost..Morales deserved the win hey it worked for calzaghe. throwing and missing all your punches is usually a bad thing but to a judge who can barely see it's the only way to score a fight.

i saw that fight live on satellite, i was on the edge of my seat at the end of the fight as Erik was weakning and David getting his shot in, but I have him winning the fight... who would Erik have fought for his first defense? knowing Erik's machismo, he would probably bait PAC for a 4th fight for his title... I don't think Diaz showed much quality and skill in that fight. He did show guts and determination but Erik, even though past his prime, was well above him. I think Morales would have gotten the decision anywhere in USA except Chicago.

Morales should've won the fight. I think the judges were swayed because Diaz put in a good effort and was outworking EM at times.

This fight could have traced a different road for Pacquiao to follow. Had Morales been awarded the deserved decision against Diaz, Pacquiao might have been in a fight against Juan Diaz or maybe the third fight against Marquez would have taken place for a belt at 135. Several interesting fights might ave followed and Morales would be even more recognized than he is in boxing history.
