Wow....I mean it's great that America has a legitimate 168 champion but this matchup has been blown way way out of proportion...
First the commentary - utterly biased. From the erarly rounds they were pretty much wetting themselves everytime Ward threw a punch then after 6 rounds when they suspected the fight was in the bag for him they started criticizing hiom saying he was making 'mistakes' but that's national commentary so can be overlooked I guess.
Secondly Kessler started slow but as the fight went on held his own and vastly improved connecting more, throwing more comboes dodging Ward's dirty hits more not to mention throwing some mean convicting punches and some gorgeous uppercuts.
Third Ward's head use was truly horrific and his grabbing atrocious. It was shameful and he should have been docked points. It's pretty obvious that Ward's gameplan was to start fast, use whatever tactics necesarry and get alot of points early - as the fight went on he tired and his workrate dropped a little whereas Kessler's came up.
This was a good fight and Ward has skills but my word what a farce! Take away the grabbing and this would have been much closer and fairer. Ward would likely still have taken it on points but at least Kessler could have lost with honour knowing he was legitimately beaten.
Kessler's too nice for his own good. He'll fight anyone anywhere and doesn't believe in dirty tricks and Ward's caught him completely unawares - I draw attention to the fact how he managed to handle Ward's grabs and dirty punches better later in the fight
The bottom line was I have no idea what fight many were watching but this match clearly wasn't the shut out people are talking about.
Enough with the headbutt talk. If Kessler had anything to offer - and was what he was touted to be - he would've used his hand speed to catch a Ward lunging with his head in clear view.
Im an American, and I think Ward used to many head butts and sneaky elbow shots.
He could have won without them.
Correct!
This is what I said in my starting post only I doubt half the people even read it.
to be objective lets ask a list of questions and see who had advantage:
Who landed bigger shots?
Who landed more shots?
Who controlled tempo?
who looked faster?
who had better defense?
all ward all day definition of outclassed
hey now hopkins did that vs calzaghe and still lost so you never know. i think the question you should ask is who missed more? then you will find the true winner.
Ward dominated. just go back and look at Kessler's face after about 4-5 rounds. He couldn't touch Ward. Please stop embarrassing yourselves with this BS
just face it, kessler is an average fighter and he got exposed. ward outclassed him from start to finish. kessler was looking for a way out and hes lucky the cuts stopped it before he got knocked out.
as for dirty tactics kessler was holding alot too. especially early on, then when he got desperate he tried to fight in close and ward was smart enough to tie him up the same way kessler was clinching him earlier.
the headbutts seemed accidental, ward had no reason to headbutt kessler at that stage ffs. half the time kessler backed up when ward threw, the other half he dipped his head down. a few times ward thought he was gonna pull back and came forward himself causing their heads to clash.
like i said kessler was lucky the cuts stopped it cuz theres a good chance he wouldve been knocked out in the 12th. ward is a far superior fighter.
I agree Ward put a boxing lesson on Kessler. I just think the butts really took a toll on Kessler.

It was almost like watching a young Bernard Hopkins fight , holding the arm and hitting on the blindside of the referee, coming in with the head; Was Ward fighting dirty ? i dont think so but perhaps not as clean as i would have liked .I do think Ward wins this fight regardless of the head butts but those looked like they hurt like hell. That has to take alot out of a fighter. It was comparable to the low blows that Cotto gave to Judah intentional or not that changes the fight......But this is boxing.
It was a near shut-out. Kessler was outclassed throughout the entire fight. He was too slow, too predictable and not prepared to change mid-fight. I'm as surprised as anyone, but Ward has a new fan in me anyway.
Crying?! LOL!
Crying was Froch-Dirrell.. That was real crying.
Look at the NSB page, it's filled with Calzaghe hate.
Kessler lost, nobody is going to cry in the manner yanks did when that pathetic excuse of a boxer Dirrell lost.
so let me get this straight...in your mind, it qualifies as "crying" to complain about a fight that 80-90% of the boxing world thinks dirrell got hosed, yet not "crying" to complain a clearly outclassed boxer in kessler got cheated?
also...a lot of americans are rooting for kessler or abraham to win this thing...try to think out your posts before you type...because i know you cant be that slow...
Kessler lost no matter how you look at it. Ward has an awkaward style.. Not everyone he fights is just going to sit out their in range for that one dimesional fraud Kessler....
The commentators were biased, because the only one who ever did anything was Ward. Whenever kessler hit him, witch was not much, the commentators would bring it up you chode.
Quit crying about it already..

Ward could have been docked 5 points for headbutting and 3 for holding and he still would have won.
He should have been DQ'ed then. He's harming the sport of boxing.
coming from an american who wanted kessler to win the fight, ward took kessler to school...
the head butt was unfortunate, but thats boxing...
kessler has a lot of balls to complain in a fight in which he was clearly outclassed...take your loss like a man...
He lunged in with his head numerous times.
He should have at least have some points deducted. The cuts take a toll on you, and Kessler himself said he couldn't see. Very dirty fighter, I can't count the amount of times he headbutted Kessler and held on for dear life whenever Kessler tried to unload a combo. But that's boxing I guess. It's funny when you hear these yanks complaining about officiating in foreign countries and when it works for them, they're quiet about it. Double standard much?!

Difference being that Dirrell would have won that fight with a fair referee and judges, while Kessler would have still lost.
