Calzaghe made Kessler look pretty bad after he figured him out too...granted Ward put a beating on him, but Calzaghe still made him look like the one diemensional fighter he is.
Don't see much of a difference, they both used great hand speed and head movement to keep Kessler out of position. The only difference I saw was Ward gave Kessler 2 cuts on headbutts and was holding and hitting entirely too much.
I'd say if Kessler was ruined by anything it was his promoter Mogens Palle who couldn't secure him the big fights when he needed them.
I don't think Andre Ward's win diminishes Calzaghe's legacy by much, Calzaghe had already made Kessler look what he is, somewhat one-dimensional and unable to adapt. Ward simply proved to be the goods and Kessler was proven to be exactly that, a one-dimensional fighter. If he was broken mentally, he would not have kept on answering the bell each time even though he was urged to quit.
Kessler can still go onto win some important fights and Ward may go onto prove himself a very good fighter who always was a level above Kessler. Calzaghe's legacy will stay as it is, had Kessler gone onto become a great fighter it would have looked better on hindsight.
Calzaghe's best win of his career was beating Kessler in a competitive but clear victory. Ward just made Kessler look like an amateur. :nana:but forgive me if i am wrong...but didnt Calzaghe Show How to Beat Kessler first via UD ?? And without headbuts :nana:

agree with you, and with the men who says that calzaghe is a joke
The minute Ward won, I knew there would be some mass orgasm amongst the Calzaghe haters, which all detracts from Ward's excellent effort.
Ward suprised me, in a good way, but why that suddenly turns Calzaghe legacy to dust is beyond me, that sort of opinion pretty much sums up their lack of boxing knowledge and disrespects decent fighters such as Woodhall, Brewer etc.
Carl Froch and Jeff Lacy both beat Robin Reid more convincingly than Calzaghe, but Reid was shot by the time he got to Lacy and even more so when Froch beat him. Lacy got owned by Calzaghe and Froch would have got the same treatment. Calzaghe, with what many on this board call his gentle slaps, nearly stopped Kessler with body shots and it was only the referee calling him up for an illegal back of the head punch that allowed Kessler to recover.
Ward is an elite level fighter, Kessler has now lost to two elite level fighters being unable to adjust during the fight.
Calzaghe sort of suceeded despite himself, he did very little research on his opposite numbers, trusting in his own abilities; a clear result of this was his loss of the opening rounds vs Kessler. Ward on the other hand has a wonderful team around him, had the blueprint for defeating Kessler and carried out the plan to perfection.
I have no issue with Ward winning, I welcome a great fighter and give credit where credit is due. The biggest dissapointment for me was seeing that Kessler had learned nothing from his mistakes. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Dirrell win learn his lesson that you have to tear a title away from someone before you start boxing in the style of an incumbent. He has bags of skill, he just needs someone to remind him that he isn't the champion yet - if he can be more positive in the next bout, he shouldn't have any issue with the judges.
Not really. Joe C would look bad had he lost to Kessler. But he beat him. Not to say Ward's win ain't a gr8 one. It just looks better cuz as he said, he was seen as a dark horse who got a bad draw in the tourney. Both guys smacked Kessler up.
All I'm saying is Calzaghe's best win was Kessler because Kessler was undefeated and Joe looked great that night. But Ward just looked even better than Calzaghe did against Kessler and the kid is still a green fighter in every way possible. This was his first real test, and he dominated a guy that Calzaghe had to work to figure out.
LOL i'm adding this to my signature with this next to it:stupid::stupid::stupid:
...Coming from a newb ****** like you will just make it sooooooooooo hurtful. And BTW, enjoy the red and good luck ever going green again.
Calzaghe "beat up" Hopkins?
...Hopkins was a cunt hair away from quitting in that fight. He was looking for a way out. The prison tough guy was ready to bend over.
it wasnt NEARLY a bad enough beating to ruin Kessler.
Kessler was hurt ONCE in that entire fight, and it was too the body.
If any fight ruins him, it was the fight tonight against Ward. He made Kessler look VERY ordinary.
Ward was spectacular tonight
...I think he mentally damaged Kessler, who thought he was invincible. That's why I said he would lose this fight.
I think Calzaghe was a great but not as good he thought he was. Before Calzaghe calls out floyd to fight mayweather he should remember that he was WBO champ at 168 and never unified the title, so he also ducked people
.......You simple minded shitbags. It just doesn't work out that way. Cal ruined Kesler in the same way he ruined Lacy. He beat up Hopkins, who is still viable to say the least, and he embarrased Roy at his own game. This doesn't diminish Cal in the least.

yea and you aren't simple minded? anyone who loses is ruined? guess clinton mitchell ruined hopkins before calzaghe fought him right?
