Anyone been noticing this? He's been doing it a ton in his last few fights. Alot of times he gets almost directly on his opponents side and throws punches. I saw him do it alot against Oscar & Cotto. Like he is almost right on there left side touching them and he's firing the left down the middle, the right to the side of the head, and they cant stop it. I was thinking that Ive never seen a fighter do that before and I dont really know what to make of it. The opponent seems like they cant defend it. I also think it affects the way they fight because even when they are boxing him straight up at times, he is far to there left. People say dont stand in front of someone but he's literaly way to the side but can still fire the left down the middle and the right to the side of the head. I was wondering if that will work alot against Floyd and can he defend it.
I think the way you defend it is by constantly circling to your left so he cant really be on the side of you and even when he does manage to get close there, you fire the left hook which should be open. Anyone notice this though? Go back and watch even some of his recent highlights, espically in those 2 fights. Its so weird. He's so far on there side that if he just like moves a foot then they could probably both be looking at the same direction, like they could both be looking ahead. At that point they cant even seem to counter back because he's not in front of them so they will have to like turn and hit him. Its weird. Has anyone noticed that? IDK if thats awesome or something amatureish that will get him killled against a highly skilled guy
at 1:29 of the 4th round Manny makes Cotto miss w/ a jab very badly and makes him pay for his mistake - He sidesteps him and fires off 4-5 punch combinations while Cotto is off balance
Freddie Roach taught this man well
What is the race of the commentator? Is that british?

that's what roach and pac train for... just watch their pad work.
I dont think it would work as effectivley with Floyd because of the nature of his shell defense. The shell defense Floyd uses neutralizes everything on 1 side of him while leaving his other side completely open. He then rolls his shoulder to shift his defense to the opposite side if the opponent comes back around.
So if Pac were to get a 90degree angle on Floyd he really wouldnt have to do much but just stay there because all the shots being fired are all from the same side.
Against Mayweather I believe Pac would be the most effective if he can get Floyd to square up with him.
i agree with roach to hit mayweather everywhere pac can hit...pac can make those shoulders sore (someone said dislocated shoulders..lol) for having hit too much.
Floyd UD - boring fight
Floyd KO - he was supposed to KO him, he's the bigger man
Pacquiao SD - world goes crazy.
It's true guys, that's what Floyd has said too. Anyway i think Floyd will try to KO Manny and if he hurts him he will try to finish him.
it's the way the "fight" was made that made it exciting for pac's fights whether its decision...i emphasize the word fight. boxing is a combat sports and warriors in the ring fights. boxing will lose to mma if fighters dance and run in the ring to avoid getting hit in pretense of defense.

it's the advantage of fast feet, huge calves.
great footwork puts you in a position to fire at the opponent when they are not in a position to defend.
basic battle positioning/strategy.

but you are act like because Pac is on the side, means that he is hitting the guys on the side. Its not. His main punch out of it is the straight left down the pipe or the left from below thats kind of like a half uppercut but it comes down the pipe. Watch it. he goes to the side but all the left hand punches still come down the center. Thats what kills them the most and thats the one he throws the most in that position because he has the most leverage on it
Yes....but if you notice that left is the setup punch. It stuns and confuses opponents because the punch is coming from a direction they expect Pac to be at but he's not. But the real killer is that it's only the 1st punch of a 3-4punch combo.
So while Pac may be able to land that left...the rest of the combo will be less likely to land on floyd than on other opponents.
How did you flip the script on me anyway??? You're the floyd fan and im the pacfan. I dont know why i'm in a position where i'm defending Mayweather's defense. Lol.
That's why I said Pac is going to be the most effective when he can get Floyd to square up with him. Because that is the weakness of that shoulder roll defense. Right down the middle. Trying to get angles is not going to work.
Now if Floyd switches to a conventional guard....then he would probably be able to work the way he has against Cotto and Hatton and Delahoya.

Yeah but that shoulder roll stuff doesnt work all that well against Southpaws because they can shoot there punches straight down the pipe so easily. Thats why Floyd ususally switches to the high guard alot against them, kinda like the Winky Wright Defense

I rememeber seeing Cus work with Mike in the gym. I remember Mike firing off all this blistering fast combos then quickly stepping or almost jumping to the side and firing off a million more blistering combos. Its a little different though because Pac is a lefty and Mike is kind of crouching into you and digging into you while Pac is kind of leaning and looking for angles to shoot it with
:lol1:
But to answer the thread, Tyson used to do it as well, D'Amato used to drill him on it. It's very effective because first of all, the opponent won't be ready for it because it's a quick step to the side, second of all you can't be countered when you're there, the opponent would have to reach all the way round to counter you, very effective for aggressive fighters with fast feet.
True dat, I never even thought about Tyson. Your right, he did use to do that alot. Pac does it a ton now and most people dont even notice it

The first time I ever noticed someone do it was in Dirrell-Hanshaw... Dirrell had Hanshaw hurt in the fifth, and when Hanshaw stumbled back into the ropes, Dirrell went to the side and loaded up a HUGE left that almost took Hanshaw's head off. The fight was stopped about 5 seconds later.
It's super effective, like you mentioned, because the opponent has to figure out how to turn and use defense not to get hit before they can even think about trying to create their own offense at that point.
The title of your thread is very racist, if you're thinking about Pacquiao's eyes.
