I think Erik Morales wars with Antonio Barrera may have made him a shot fighter. Morales was the more brawler of the two, while Barrera stopped in occasions to use his technic.
I Believe Rafael Marquez and Israel Vaszquez battles have made them shot fighters.
I believe Arturo Gatti fighting Micky Ward sealed it for Gatti.
While Fernando Vargas all started with just Trinidad and then De La Hoya.
Same goes for Ricardo Mayorga.
I got to believe that a streak of tough hard hitting fighters is a risk for any boxer. And for the ones that aren't I don't think they've had a streak of challenging opponents.
There's a lot to be talked about this subject like which fighters have fought the biggest streak of hard hitting fighters. Especially the ones that havn't been previously knockout. If You check the records you might find that the ones that have avoided the longer streak of dangerous fighters have manage to avoid getting knocked out.
It depends on who they fight and how they fight. Certain guys like Jermain Taylor are obviously shot, I hate to say it.
Cotto may be shot, but he did look good in the early rounds against Pac and his stamina was never great anyways. He did have a decent chin at WW (it's funny how people say he has suspect chin now after he got knocked down twice). If he wasn't shot then, he may be shot now.
Marquez may also be shot. His last 3 fights before Mayweather (Pac, Casamoyor, J. Diaz) were back and forth wars he was behind in. But, I am pretty sure he's still has it, he was just too heavy for Mayweather.
Pacquiao would be shot now if he fought the same way he fought 4 years ago.
For Mayweather, he has great defense and never faces top competition so age is his only potential downfall for being shot. He may fight till he's forty, but at that point he would only fight guys 45 and older.
Name current top fighters that have had tough fights on a row. Guys that represented a real challenge and were dangerous.
Jermain Taylor and Miguel Cotto. These guys are young, but most likely shot, cuz they rattled off 1 tough fight after anotha. Same shit happened to Vargas.
None of that matters. There are alot of guys who have had a many tought fights and still look great while certain guys can get ruined in one night. Your eyes dont lie. You know when a guy is not the same when you see it

there are alot of factors that come into play here...number and type(i.e wars or chess matches) of fights, how a fighter takes care of themselves in between fights, and genetics. Guys like B-hop can last so long because of the way they fight(defensively) whereas guys like Vargas are brawlers and have a short shelf life. There are, of course, exceptions to every rule.
When you can't fight at the level you previously fought at, and ain't due to specific injuries or age, it's a sign the fighter is shot. Too many tough fights or maybe just 1 or 2 really violent ones. Sumtimes weight issues cause it/accelerate it too. Shot fighters are simply overall, less than what they once were. Some fighters are past prime when they older, but not shot cuz they stay in good shape and never took bad punishment.
