I very well may have forgotten some, had to do this in a hurry, so ad them and state why :D
both for accomplishments and skillwise.
so who is the best/greatest/most accomplished fighter?
EDIT: I forgot all about Whitaker (I honestly didn't know much about him as i was rather new to boxing at the time this thread was started and I kinda still am.) AND DEFINITELY Bernard Hopkins. WOW, how could i forget him? Also some of you have requested Calzaghe which I think is ok, sorry about that. And some have even requested Mike Tyson which I don't think should be on here at all since all of his 6 losses were during this period. While none of his big wins were. Also he didn't fight for 5 years while he was in prison so IMO he shouldn't be in the poll. :) I must admit, I am a little bit embarrassed to look back at this :pat:
Naturally Pac is the greatest fighter of the last 20 years. Freddy Roach is the worlds greatest trainer and some people dont think Roach is and that he is possibly overated. People believe Pac made Roachs reputation what it is, so that speaks volumes for Pac.
Considering Roach has trained some great fighters.
rubensonny, i don't see what is so funny, about lennox lewis, being third on my list, my man....
C'mon man, he can't really be above a Mayweather or a Pacquiao, his resume just doesn't compare and neither does his skills (especially compared to Mayweather), I think its down to him being a heavyweight that he gets overrated.
This is a sh*t poll. No Pernell Whitaker but two sisters instead.
oops missed your edit. I think you should replace the sisters with Hopkins and Whitaker. If you haven't seen Whitaker you should check him out because he was an excellent boxer.
the best fighter of the last 20 years, imo, goes to pernell "sweatpea" whitaker, with roy jones jr., in second place, and lennox lewis, in third...manny pacquaio?....ahhhhh....too many catchweight fights, where the champ had to move down in weight, for my taste...
:rofl::rofl:
like i posted a few years back, it's floyd---i gave an honset account as to why and it hasn't changed..he dominated mosley, like i said he would and i had it down to the tee with stats and everythig. p dub went and got himself ko'ed...and just fell off...manny is keeping himself away from floyd through bob arum and he will be dominated when they finally fight...berto lost to the guy floyd ko'ed, and was just caught with ped's in his system, even though it may not be his fault really, i don't know...
floyd is really the 9 time world champion because he beat mosley, who was the wbo of wba(i forgot) ww champion when he fought floyd, but floyd made the fight more about the fight and not the title...he has dominated champions...de la hoya, judah, baldomir, cotto, mosley, and ortiz to name some...oscar imo didn't win anymore than 3 rounds against him and the same goes for cotto, and floyd moved up to fight them both, not bring them down to catchweights....floyd has achieved the most while breaking compbox records and making the most money and remaining undefeated in the process...name any other fighter on that list that did that---not roy, who has lost so many times now, in his prime, he was great, but who did he fight really? he beat hopkins and toney....
he beat griffin and kelly....he beat ruiz...and then lost to tarver in the rematch and 3rd fight---lost to jonhson by ko...lost to joe c...lost to hopkins in the rematch...lost to a guy whose name i forgot in the 1st round....lost to a guy whose name i never attempted to learn, and was stopped by him in 10 rounds...jones has been ko'ed 4 times in the 2000 decade...and has lost 8 fuking times---and i don't care if he was past his prime or not...he didn't hang up the boots, if still counts...
hopkins is past his prime and has won titles...floyd was past his prime once he left 140 lbs and has remained undefeated and has beaten 8 champions/former champions in a row---and yes i do count hatton and jmm because even though they were smaller, well hatton was bigger naturally, they had titles....and manny fought jmm at ww just like floyd did and looked so bad against him, and floyd trumped jmm----and now manny is making bradley come up in weight, just like floyd did with hatton, when hatton was undefeated...yet, hatton openly ducked floyd in 2004 and 2005 and some of 06...at 140, hatton didn't want to fight floyd and floyd can't force someone to fight him....hatton had a ww title also....
with all due respect to hopkins and sweet pea and even de la hoya, floyd has topped them all....it's not manny, it's floyd--look at when floyd fought these guys compared to when manny fought them, and the conditions of the fights---that's your answer right there--
manny loses to moralles and then fight him in a rematch after erik loses to rahim...many say he lost to jmm in the rematch and 3rd fight--and manny could be on ped's...who knows? he did everything in his power to avoid testing until he knew the fight was off and then agreed to them....margarito was caught cheating..floyd has always been more than willing to test and make sure everyone knows, he has never cheated...and don't start that hand numbing sh1t--it's legal in nevada and many fighters have used it and floyd doesn't even use it anymore----and hasn't used it for a while--
meanwhile, shane was ped's, roy was caught, toney was caught, berto, peterson, and manny could damn sure be on them....
out of all of the great fighters i mentioned, floyd still reigns supreme but man oh man is that motherfuker hated or what?lol
he is the best of the best period, deal with it....
pbftxs316, as floyd "money" mayweather would say, you did one hell of a job, ballwashing floyd "money" mayweather jr., my man (word)

Pacquiao leading the poll is exactly right. That's just being truthful. Doesn't matter if Roy was "untouchable", you're talking about skills, not accomplishments, and skills don't really factor into ATG lists. It's what you achieve that makes you highly regarded, no matter if you're flawed.
I watched Roy in his prime, so for me it's nothing to do with being young. My introduction to boxing was Ali late in the 70's.
So what two young future Hall of Famers did Pacman take out?
resume trumps perceived talent and hypothetical p4p match ups. Resume you can measure.
In that case,
its clearly pac.
like i said before, idc about ur definition of best but to me, best =/= greatest. and at any rate, pernell whitaker is greater than pac, imo.
the best fighter is not = to the greatest fighter. and imo pac isnt either. the best fighter in the last 20 yrs is undoubtedly rjj imo. i think hed be the favorite p4p prime for prime against everyone on the list.

IDK if I would pick him over Floyd in a fight. If all things are close, I always go with defense & fundementals for the win.
Cant go wrong with picking RJ in anything or against anyone in history. I think we wouldve known alot more about his true greatness if the RJ-Hopkins rematch wouldve happened at 168 sometime in the year or 2 after the Tito fight.
People forget about that matchup. Now everyone mostly talks about Bowe-Lewis to go along with Pac-Floyd of fights we didnt get. I ever now hear alot about Mosley-Tito but the RJ-Hopkins rematch is as big as any of them, espically in highnsight.
I say that because alot of people felt RJ would be too big & strong at that point but we now know that Hopkins looked great jumping all the way to 175 to fight Tarver so you know he wouldve looked fine at 168 vs RJ. That fight wouldve been such a classic.
He clearly lost to RJ the 1st time but he still give Roy more problems than anyone in his career besides Griffin until Roy got past his prime. Hopkins was on point at the time of the Tito fight. You have to favor Roy but no doubt in my mind that Hopkins wouldve gave him hell. Man I wish we couldve seen that

do you guys mean by what they did in this 20 years frame or all together who was the better fighter
i go with floyd mayweather on both accounts
1. he hasnt lost and beat a huge list of guys
2. he is a better fighter great defensively and has great tools offensively a good but very very under used jab
manny pacquiao - a 1 dimiensional fighter for most of that 20 year frame and lost 3 times 2ce people no1 know and to erik morales who beat gim with better technique and didnt do anything to bring to the table in the 90's
oscar de la hoya - i am just flat out not a fan and really dnt like bt ill do my best to be unbiast he beat some real good names bt the biggest anmes on his list were no longer at theyre best except for fernando vargas not all there though and he did lose in his mega fights and a 1 handed fighter no pop in his right hand
evander holyfield no excuses from me he is great fighter bt did nothing in this last decade so he could be my number 1 pick if this wasnt for all thru these 20 years of just hands down the better fighter
felix trinidad- a great fighter no doubt bt wasnt complete was very hittable and again did nothing thru both decades
roy jones jr - if i was goin for just the better fighter criteria i would pik hi m hands down bt again didnt do much in the 2000's
shane mosley- great fighter bt hittable n lost to any1 with a good jab and didnt do much bt in 3 or 4 fights of the last decade
wladimir klitschko - now he is my favorite acitve fighter today bt i will be biast the reason he wasnt my number 1 pick is bcuz of the losses if it was for being just the better fighter then i would pick him he is better than all these guys in the early part of 2000's n late 90s he would run out of gas bt he is a far better fighter now he has a jab right left hook u cant touch the guy
lennox lewis - is a great champion i have him as my number 3 pick bt doesnt make the list bcuz i feel mayweather is more complete aside from the jab department
vitali klitschko - he is a great fighter and 1 of my favorite hw champs of all time i would pick him in both categories to win bt again i just feel mayweather is the better fighter
We get that you think Mayweather is the GREATEST fighter ever. and had to make a list to try to show why he is the best in your eyes. but NONE of these fighters RETIRED to duck other fighters. I mean Lennox ducked a young tyson. but other then that all the other fighters haven't ducked no one.
Even if Mayweather has all the "SKILLS" he could of used them after the ricky hatton fight to beat a undefeated Cotto, a Raging Margarito, a Game Clottley, A relentless Paul Williams, a Beast Pacquaio. But he didn't.
RIGHT WHEN THE WW DIVISION GOT HOT HE LEFT MAN. HE LEFT AND WAITED TIL THEY BEAT UP EACHOTHER.
The lack of Ricardo Lopez upsets me when I hear names like Pac being tossed in as first choices.
why would you be upset?
Pac's resume craps all over that weight class hiding ducker.
I have not yet decided but Floyd, Lewis, Holyfield and Trinidad are up there
At 147 PAc and Floyd have to fight first but in my mind 147 Trinidad and 147 prime Oscar would beat the crap out of Pac at WW. RJJ didn't have that much competition but still had good wins vs B-Hop and James Toney.
I will think about it more
just because they beat the crap out of him doesnt make them better. (not saying that they arent though).........lol
