I'll start by saying I'm a great fan of Pacman so this is in no way a slight on his recent achievements. I certainly think that he belongs in the halls of greatness with the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard and Robinson.
I would love to see the Floyd/Pacman fight like everyone else. Whoever were to win that fight would go on to be the no1 p4p no matter what people's opinions are on that matter now. I think it would be great to see a new up and coming fighter take the winner of this fight down. It would be a great way for boxing to pass the mantle on to a new generation. Cotto, although a great fighter and one of my top 5 favourite boxers, hasn't really looked the same since margarito, hatton I never thought too highly of in the skills department and Oscar was certainly past his best. It would have sucked to see the pacman legacy ended by one of these guys despite the fact I like all of them.
I guess Berto is a possibility although he hasnt shown the kind of heart and desire that I would like to see from this new era champion. Everyone seems to be discounting him in the fight against sugar shane anyway. Is there any young up n comers that you guys see perhaps not beating pacman or floyd but if not, possibly becoming the next big thing? There isnt much boxing on here but I recently saw a guy fight called Valero. He was Columbian perhaps...I'm sure you guys know him. He seemed to be pretty ferocious although I cant say I have any idea how old he is.
I made sure not to mention any boxers that I didnt like so I should hopefully avoid some of the nerdrage that comes in replies to a lot of threads. Just interested what you guys think.

Bad start. You should've said "I'm a fan of the great Pacman." Why? Because he doesn't have to lose to anyone, and certainly not to an up-and-comer.
Yeah theres noone right now who would compete with him or draw enough dollars. What I was getting at is there anyone that people could forsee being the next real force in that sorta weight range who could maybe interest people enough in 18 months or so to put a fight with pacman together.
In reference to the guy who asked earlier why I thought he needed to lose to a younger fighter, I guess he doesnt NEED to but I think it would be great for boxing to see that happen. It was great during the Tyson era because people were just as excited about him on the way up, after only a few fights. At the moment it seems all the excitement is around guys who are ready to retire. And thats no slight on them at all, I guess its more a comment on the state of youth boxers at the moment?
I know what you mean...because there is a feeling that after pacquiao and mayweather retires, there aren't any boxer able to be as great as they are, so there will be like a void.
Gamboa is like the only one that has the skills to be really something.
I still have high hopes on Linares, but his loss was a real shock to me. Really hope to see him again soon.

that alvarez never fought any superstars...
ahahah.....never fought outside mexico...ahahah
He is still 19 and of course has a loong way to go, but it seems like he has potential.
There is a Mexican guy that is only 19 and i liked him very much. He still is veeeery green but he has an outstanding record and he has fight guys with pretty decent records themselves.
Here is a video of a fight, and his boxrec record.
One of the youtube comments, one guy says that Mayweather was planning on fighting this guy lolz. Don't know if it's true btw =P.

There are no up & comers to pass the mantle too. You could say Paul Williams but he isnt exactly a youngster anymore. Bradley, Berto, Valero, and Khan are good but not good enough to take over for the elite guys. The only young guy who is exciting like you say is Gamboa

i don't get it, why does he need to lose to an up and comer?
I know that Pacs legacy won't require a fight with anyone younger. I guess what I'm looking for is a welterweight version of Tyson. Someone who appears on the scene with a huge knockout and a couple years later has basically slaughtered anyone else he has faced. I think thats the fight - PAC old warrior vs Crazy caged lion new boy. I guess the unfortunate fact is that there are no young tyson esque fighters out there. That was probably my question.
Is Victor Ortiz much good? Perhaps he's a hope in a couple years. Forgive my ignorance, I dont get a chance to see a great deal of boxing here.

If he beats floyd he wouldn't need to fight anyone else in regard to legacy or anything else! Saying that, it would we something else if he could go on to fight and beat the likes of mosely........ anyone after this would be a step down and could be hard to get up for. So in that sense they could be considered up and comers. I see what your sayin.:fing02:
