for me it's tough to say. But what I did see in their from cotto i didn't like. Maybe and it could be all pacman(which i'm leaning towards it is) but that bein said he has been in many fregin wars and it's going to catch up if not already. Why risk something when you have done so much to me the writing is on the wall I don't want him to retire but I think he should. NOt because of this loss the way it happened at his past. He's a game fighter and always will be but he is not the same. I'm not taking anything away from pacman i think he beats cotto 10 out 10 times. I told my friends before the fight this is the biggest fight for me since tito and hopkins and at the end of the fight I felt the same way I did that night with the cotto fight drunk and pissed off and sad. When cotto asked santiago one more round, i am glad he went out and didn't sit on the stool. One last thing manny pacquiao is the best little man boxer I have ever seen i've been watching since mid 90"s never seen anything like him he is just a beast. cotto isn't damaged goods. he just got beaten by a great fighter and he needs to move on and reassert hisself in the same division. he has good technical skills but just couldn't cope up with manny's speed. He also needs to improve on his defense and stamina.. Do you think he has the reach the point where he gets knocked out by one punch to be damage goods? He cant take as many shots now without going down. How can he be any better. If he had the same fights he had with Mosley, Clottey, and Margarito he will likely lose in a faster fashion because he's been hurt since he fought Margarito. You couldn't tell that quickly because he fought Jennings, but he's just very fragile now. Sure he can box, but as soon as he gets a good punch he's in trouble unlike when he fought Mosley.

Heard the same thing when he lost to Margarito, clottey and now after Pacquiao. They said same thing about the guys i mentioned in previous post and also Evander, Marquez, etc

I honestly think Cotto can become a Champion again. All he has to do is get an experienced corner and stop letting his heart do the work. He should have a tune up and then a 10-15 rated type of guy before fighting a top 5 again.. My 2c. Good Post Chicano. I think Cotto need to take some time off, unlearn what he does, and totaly re-invent himself. With a reall good trainer, and if he can stop being so stubborn and listen to his corner and trainer, get a couple tune -up fights, maybe even some reconstructive surgury on that nose. Imagine if the Hearns, haglers, durans, leonards retired after losing 1 or 2 big fights.Cotto needs to regroup, take some time off and come back and get the WBA,WBC OR IBF titles.You got mosley rematch, Berto, Hatton and cintron. Look at mosley, he is 38 yrs old and has lost how many times????? People panic too fast and want to get rid of fighters after losing 1 or 2 fights.

I have to disagree with your examples... tyson, arreola and duran where not bleeding out their nose for the second time in their carreers like cotto is.. his nose is badly scarred.. spitting blood by the 6h round is not a good sign.. true he got beat by an ATG in pac. .. It will be interesting to see if you are correct in your predictions against mosley or margo.. but at this time I just don{t see him doing.. just food for thought... if cotto was bleeding out his nose like he did against pac or margo do you think he would have beat mosley¿¿¿¿ any one can answer.. Hey look at BHop, he is a believe 40 and still winning fights. Cotto has to take a good vacation. He has been fighting the top guys back to back, he had a war with SSM, close fight with Clottey and possibly hit with plaster for 11 rounds by Marg. He needs to allow his body and mind to take a rest and regroup. Cotto could come back to become the fighter he once was. First, he needs to rest and heal his body, second, get a trainer that knows what he is doing, lets be real here, Santiago does not know what to do when plan A does not work. He needs someone that can teach him different things, b/c last night his corner did not have an answer. I am not saying that it would had changed the outcome, but Cotto after the second round, looked lost, even clueless. He needs someone in the corner that has the experience to make the fighter adjust to the situation, clearly Santiago did not have that. Also, he needs a corner that is willing to throw in the towel when need be. By the way, these are no excuses, the better fighter won, but Cotto could have performed better.

Because a fighter loses to Pacquiao doesn't mean he should automatically retire. What the hell is with these posts... I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only reason Cotto lost is because De La Hoya picked him to win. It's a curse! Mayweather will lose because De La Hoya will pick him to win. i dont think he needs to hang em up he can continue to fight but he needs to re invent himself...he needs to stop training himself and get a trainer for one...and no more catchweights just stick at 147....hes still a top fighter its just that manny is not human...i was in awe of his performance amazing and he took cottos shots like nothing....pacman is unbelievable.......but cotto is still my man i will continue to support him and hes still my favorite....

I'm a big Cotto fan but after watching this fight, I can honestly say that Cotto was either overhyped or because I wanted him to do well so badly that I was blind to the fact that he may actually be overrated. Cotto shouldn't be labeled as one of the great Puerto Rican Champions. Looking at his fight resume he hasn't earned that label and isn't on that level. I'm sorry to have to admit this, but he also doesn't show that warrior mentality in the ring that the great ones show and kind of shows that his mental makeup can be broken by absorbing some punishment in the ring. That said, I support and want nothing but the best for Cotto and am still a big fan of his. As for Manny Pac, I have to also admit that I underestimated Pacman and can now admit and acknowledge that Pacman is and should go down as one of the greatest boxing champions of ALL TIME. I too am looking forward to the Mayweather/Pacman match and feel that Pacman will win- and going by the boxing resume, heart and styles feel he is the better fighter of the two. Mayweather MAY be the more skillfull, tactical fighter of the two but hasn't done what Pacman has done (fighting and beating the best of the best). Pacman has EARNED his label as the best pound for pound fighter in the universe and after last night has cemented his legacy in boxing history (something that Mayweather has yet to do). Props to Manny Pacman Pacquiao.

Cotto isn't done yet man, dont jump the gun, he was beating by the p4p king of this era, people need to realise Cotto just couldn't cut it against pac.

He shouldn't retire, he has 2 losses, one to the best fighter in that past 20 years AT LEAST, and the other to a guy with loaded gloves. That being said he needs to take a long layoff, a year or so. In that time he needs to restructure his corner and find a new trainer, either get his uncle back or Emmanuel Steward or someone with a lot of experience. I still think he can beat any WW out there if heals his body up and gets a corner that can teach and guide him more and not let him run the show. He did great till that 2nd knockdown, but after that it was the Marg fight all over again, and the only way I see him getting what he lost is a win over Marg, if he can do it. Marg really beat something out of Cotto and might have ruined what could have been a great great career.

It's hard to say. He should do like Hatton and just take some time off. See where his mind and body are in six months. Cotto is still one of the greatest in the world after all! If he is gonna retire, I think he should only after fighting Margarito again. That would be a great way to close out his career.

First of all I want to congratulate manny and the philippines on a great victory! After witnessing the complete dominance of pac over cotto y have to say that cotto should hang them up. Many people including roach said that cotto was damaged goods and I refused to believe them. But I am convince now that he indeed is damage goods.. I am not taking anything away from manny, even if cotto was not damaged goods manny could have beat him. He has grown very well into the WW/ jrWW division. Manny has proven to have a solid chin against one of the hardest hitters no question about it and, when cotto said that he was hurt by shots he did not see that was good enough for me to believe what others have been saying. These are the reasons why I say cotto should hang them up. He is a good boxer, but when you are spitting blood by the sixth round because your nose has been broken you cannot win any fights. I said it in a post before that if manny breaks cotto's nose manny will win and that is exactly what happend. Damaged goods indeed, any high volume puncher would break his nose and most likely end up in a loss. I am afraid he will end his career in a similar fashion as benitez...I believe that fighters such as collazo, mosley, even berto and margarito would have a chance to beat cotto. Cotto lost to a great Champ. He has lost something but not all. I think he still has a couple of good fights left in him. I would say, comeback against Hatton, KO him and one last fight. Then he should retire. Anyways, he is still my favorite fighter and I will support him with whatever desicion he makes.
