Ricky Hatton is not widely considered to be an elite fighter. He's someone who secured big fights with the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr based largely off of his fan support and the amount of revenue this otherwise football friendly crowd would generate. The majority (but not all) of Hatton fans are generally not true boxing fans but rather soccer supporters who decided to support Hatton because of his soccer affiliations. Hatton has recently showed interest in possibly fighting Cotto if he beats Manny and, given the amount of money he can generate, Hatton has the unique luxury of being able to fight almost anyone he chooses. Does Hatton deserve that luxury above other, more talented boxers? Based on his skill alone, did Hatton ever deserve to earn as much as he did from the sport of boxing?
Hatton was dominant and then faded that fight because he was sick during camp and didn't have proper conditioning. Many people here were predicting Urango to KO Hatton so Ricky deserves some credit for winning convincingly while having an off night. And NOBODY thought Hatton could beat Tszyu so he deserves respect for winning ANY way he could!
Lmao who actually predict a Urango win, His Mother??? One journalist describe Urango has an amatuer who couldnt even shadow box when he saw him preparing for the Hatton fight, Urango was only a novice with 17 fights and one of then which i think he lost against Rabah.
Yes Hatton deserve his payday because he had a market and thats what count in boxing, I still think his best performance was his fight with paulie M.
No need to bash Hatton now that he's a shot fighter. Ricky deserved his earnings as much as any fighter.
And he was very talented, I suggest anyone who doesn't believe it: download and watch his fights from 2003 to 2005.
i suggest you down load his resume from 2003 to 2005 and take a look at what quality fighters are on there..
Cant believe people are saying no....he lost to the 2 best p4p fighters in the world....how the fk can you say no?
He deserved every penny he got, at least he aint a pussy like some fighters... he took the step UP to mayweather...give him credit, its not like he was distroyed in that fight....like yeah may was pot shotting, the ref wasnt exactly fkin good tho was he
N the pac thing i duno wtf happened...but he has deserved everything hes made from the sport
:lol1: I don't like his two wins the ones I've seen! It was like watching a wrestling match. Of course Hatton is a nice man out of the ring, but he was boring for me to watch. I mean its so annoying to watch someone clinch and punch and dirty fight like that. If I enjoyed shit like that Calzaghe/Hopkins would be my favorite fight ever!
Hatton changed his style to beat Tszyu and his bad habit formed for that fight continued except for when he fought Malignaggi. Watch his fights before Tszyu and you'll see that Ricky was an exciting pressure fighter that was as good as anybody at cutting the ring off and he never clinched. Hatton couldn't get that large of a fan base by being boring in the ring, nobody can, if you could then Witter would be just as big of a star as Hatton is...
I agree w/ most of the posts above. Hatton shouldnt think twice about fighting again. There is nothing more for him to prove unless he fights JMM. imo be a 50/50 fight. The 2 styles would be a perfect match.

Fair enough. The guy wears his heart on his sleeve and made the most of his limited ability. He always gave 100% and throughly deserved everything he made.
Why all the Hatton hate guys? He was entertaining and nice fella to boot. A very decent boxer until mayweather ****ed him over. I cant understand all the hate
Was Hatton also sick when he super-low blowed Kostya and clinched him to death all night long? I know low blows are accidental sometimes but that looked on purpose and in retaliation for Kostya accidentally throwing that flurry to Hattons belt-line. :nonono:
The low blow was intentional and I wouldn't have had a problem if the referee decided to take a point. Bottom line is Hatton weathered the storm over an All-Time great fighter (Tszyu) as a heavy underdog and made him quit on his stool so the scoring didn't matter. I had Ricky up by 3 points going into the final round.
hatton earned the right to fight floyd when he beat kosta...everyone thought zoo could hang with floyd..so when ricky dusted him he became larger than life sort of like pac right now. but we all know ricky was overrated and fought an old zoo and he never had a chance against floyd.
but I wanted to see him get brutalized by floyd for all his fans talking like he could carry floyds jock strap..same goes for manny his fans are rising high talking mad shit but when floyd gets his ass in the ring we will be having these same polls asking was manny worthy of even fighting floyd amd we all know manny couldn't carry floyds jock strap.:nonono:
Tszyu...he's not an animal menagerie.

Hatton deserved every penny he ever made in the ring. His losses to 2 great fighters get magnified and his wins over many great and good fighters gets diminished. If Hatton wasn't an elite fighter his record would be similar to Gatti's, but Ricky never lost to somebody he was supposed to beat while beating many he wasn't. This tends to get overlooked by so many haters...

Bullshit. He secured those fights 'largely off' on the basis of his record which was 43-0 and 45-1 on each occasion, although obviously the fact he is a big box office draw helped. Sure, he lost them, but the guy's record still stands at 45-2, the '2' both being the p4p #1 at the time. Of course he 'deserves' to have earned the money he did.
