Its not in the mainstream as it once was, no. UFC is much more in the minds of young people, for sure. Times are changing, but boxing isnt going anywhere. Its just theres no *real* young, up-and-coming american fighters and that are getting people excited about boxing again. There are great guys I enjoy a lot, but outside of boxing circles no one knows who they are.
Just like the HW division needs someone like Tyson, America needs someone like Pacquiao.
No American TV is dieing. National networks focused on unwanted programing, In a country where large crowds of weekend warriors used to gather around the tube to watch network boxing on Saturday and Sunday, now nobody even knows what's on in it's place. Fox sports once good for alot of fights, now it would suprise us thats it's still on the air, we haven't noticed
Spanish networks like univision and telemundo haven't even noticed that no one is watching them any more either. So ESPN2 and hbo/showtime is the only outlet and for many, our savior!
Hail the weekend warrior!
i know boxing is doing really well around the world but is it starting to fade away in america. what do u think could change this?
I don't think it's really dying, but it's becoming more global and the focus isn't on America so much these days.

Great topic on the eve of a mega fight...
Boxing is doing fine, it won't be a mainstream sport like it was 30 years ago, but who cares? Do we really want the douchebags from ESPN reporting on boxing?

Heavyweight boxing was always the main attraction... especially when the champ was american and thats not happening anytime soon lol

boxing is a fringe sport, but if a charismatic boxer from the USA who can captivate the entire populace and not just an ethnic group were to emerge, then the popularity of boxing would increase.

unfortunately it is. I think something needs to be done about the financial aspect of boxing so that more big fights will be made.
