this make no sense to me.
segrio is a champ at 154 and it should be at his weight on his terms and not on paul. WTF did paul do to make segrio move up in weight to fight him, beat the "stationary defense" winky wright (no disrespect to winky or paul)? it's not like paul can't make weight. i can only think of the reason that segrio is moving up cause of $$$$$ but if that the case why can't it be at 154??
i just think the weight will affect him and he won't be able to bring his best vs paul. this just a way for HBO to get paul more names....
just something that on my mind since this fight started.
No I am not acting like Williams has been a MW his whole career. My first post in this thread was that Martinez is the best opponent for P-Will from 154-160. But, they both are top 10 JMW are they not? So it means more at 154 IMO...
Out of all the examples I gave. You only aknowledged Hatton-Floyd. So that means you are a Floyd fan. And, I probably offended you with that comparison. So I will leave it that. Cuz IMO Floyd is not relevant.
So loot at Juanma-Caballero. Both more than likely will be the same men in the ring at 126. But, where does that mean more at, where would be the better fight at, where would you rather watched them fight at 122 or 126? In the old days anything over 118 would be a featherweight fight. But, in this day and age where would that fight have more meaning 122 or 126?
I am not dissing P-Will at all. I like Williams I have defended Williams on here passed. I am just saying it matters more it has more meaning at 154.
I don't care that much about Juan Ma-Caballero because that fight is not in the cards. The whole thing about Pac-Cotto is that Cotto is clearly a bigger man, to me Pac is the greater fighter so it is kind of a toss up because Cotto is clearly bigger.
Hatton-Floyd is the only one that was similar that I cared about and people make that arguement all the time, and I say that is a bullshit all the time so I am staying consistent on the matter. I felt that Floyd and Hatton are similar sized men so where the fight took place is not that much of a deal, same thing with this fight I feel Martinez and Williams are similar sized men.
Where they fight at does not play that much of a role because I want to know who the the better man between them if they fight at 147, 154, 160, 168, 175, 200+ because I don't think it matter that much because they are similar sized.
Also Floyd is relevent, he is one of the tops dogs in the sport no matter what anyone says; no matter if he plays grab ass or fights the guys people want him to fight. It will change if he messes around for to long but for right now he is relevent for the forseeable future.
As far as I know Williams and Martinez will be the same men in the ring, this would not be Martinez's first trip to 160 and you are acting liek Williams has been a 160 pounder his whole career. It was a bullshit arguement for the Mayweather-Hatton fight and it is a bullshit arguement now, they are the same men and they are of similar size so it really does not play that big of a role. The only thing different is that a trinket is not on the line, fighters make the titles not the other way around.
In the old days anything over 147 would be a middleweight fight, so it is just like teh old days to smaller guys fighting at 160 it should not be a big deal at all.

As far as I know Martine is a better fighter at 154 than at MW until proven other wise. It means more at 154. Is a better fight at 154. Just like Pac-Cotto is better at 147 than 145, just like Hatton-Mayweather would of been better at 140 than 147, just like Junma Lopez-Caballero is better, it means more, and it should be at 122 than at 126. Pavlik-Taylor meant more at MW than it did at 166. Basically yes technically you are right. All this fights is/was the same at a different. However, it meant/means more at the original weights. Does it make sense now?

Because Martinez is an avoided fighter that is hard to look good against and not many want to fight him.....so he has to take what notable fights are offered to him.....at least he is willing to step up and take fights while not making excuses about why he shouldn't fight anyone so I give him alot of credit......Also He is pretty sexy too.
no homo:rofl:
Reported for fagggotry on the realio.
Cuz Pwill was gettin ready for a MW fight and ain't wanna drop down on short notice. I wish it was for the WBC belt at 154, but fukk it. I still like the fight.
it not the belt im talking about. im talking bout him moving up in weight to fight paul. don't see any point to it other than $$$$$ and bumping up paul resume.
im just all for intresting fights. @ 160 don't sound as intresting to me.
I agree. Its a win win situation for everyone except us due to Pwill having another advantage over Martinez
This is what I would call nit-picking, the fight is the same at 154 or 160 both guys are light for middleweight.
How does the fight really change at 160 that makes it a lesser fight other then a 154 trinket not being on the line. It is the same damn fight, correct me if I am wrong but Martinez has said he would fight anyone at 160 it is a more glamourus divison then 154 and a win over Williams there would be big for him in boxing circles.
I still fail to see any of your issues~

its because the fight is on short notice and he probably doesnt have enough time to get down to 154 but it doesnt matter hes 400 times the fighter pwills overrated ass is
Williams should've took a little bit less money to satisfy Martinez and fight him for his title at 154 now that I think about it. I don't think that Mosley and Cotto will keep fighting at 147, and if Williams has no title then there is no incentive in fighting him for those guys. It sounds lame, but he needs something to entice those guys if he wants to get in the ring with them. Pavlik is just a big let down right now.
This fight should of been at 154. The fight matters more at 154. The fight is better at 154. But, regardless Sergio Martinez is the best opponent for P-Will from 154-160.
How come some of you are blaming PWill for the fight weight, how do you know Martinez wanted to defend his title on such short notice? That being said how can anyone complain about 6lbs when Haye just fought a dude that had a 90lbs weight advantage. 6 lbs shouldnt make or break an elite fighter.
Martinez was suppose to fight somebody in Spain sometime in Septemeber. I don't know about the weight. But he was suppose to fight
Martinez and Williams both planned on coming under the middleweight limit for their next bout. And I expect both to weigh 157. Two interesting notes prior to the announcement of the bout, Williams was quoted as saying he preferred Martinez because he could pick up another title. DiBella was quoted as saying he wasn't sure if they would put the belt on the line. This is the result.
guess he don't want to take the risk vs paul.....i think his slick style will give paul trobule.
If it was cause of his 1st showing vs Quintana I would give Martinez more of a chance, but we haven't seen any of them prove themselves in this weight.
Paul Williams was very active vs Winky Wright, but Winky is old and didn't put any pressure on him. So I don't know if Williams was actually getting better or just looked better against much slower opponent.
