People are calling Chad Dawson a boring fighter for boxing and using movement. But Cotto runs for his life and really doesn't even box against Mosley and Clottey toward the end and runs like Michael Johnson against Margarito for the whole fight. But he's praised as a warrior. I'm confused.
No you didn't, you created a thread on how boring he was.
That was before the fight though. I think I made a thread after the fight comparing his entertainment value with a guy like Paul Williams. But that's as far as I went.
I eased off my criticism of him though after he beat Johnson even though I stuck by my position that he's not a scintillating fighter. I'm just saying that Cotto ran even more against a smaller opponent, and people as of right now are praising him as a warrior. Now obviously Pacquiao is a better and fresher opponent than Johnson, but if you don't see those double standards then you are blind. And yeah. I'm saying this as one of the biggest Chad Dawson haters on this forum. And like I said, I actually get more excited about Cotto's fights. I'm just pointing out double standards that people use.

What a stupid post.
YOU are the one who has been obsessively complaining about Chad Dawson. You criticise him far more than anyone else on here, and now you're crying that people use double standards when calling him boring?

I support Dawson against a lot of fighters, but he's boring as hell. More boring than Floyd because Floyd is a complete master in the ring. Chad is a level below in all aspects.
Dawson boxed well last night. Some should blame his oppenent for only being one D. Why fight a stupid fight and take the chance to get caught again like the last time.
Whoever said Cotto was putting on a clinic against Margo is crazy. It was obvious that Margo's pressure was giving him problems. By the 6th round Margo was putting in work. Cotto was on his backfoot the entire fight.
To much nationalistic pride and people only see what they want to see in fights. There us no way in hell that Cotto dominated Mosley in that fight.
The parts of the fight of where each guy was the aggressor they won. This is why I don't understand why people claim that Cotto won the rounds of where he supposedly boxed. He pulled the 11th round out though. But Mosley is just one fight. He ran against Clottey and Margo too. Most people who have bad cuts over their eyes try to KO their opponents (except for Campell obviously) to keep it from going to the cards like James Toney did against that one guy and the way Gatti always used to at least try to do. But Cotto is a warrior just because he stayed away from exchanges.
God help you.
Both guys are great fighters. You have to give some credit to Dawson because he's not a puncher and he's fighting guys who can end a fight with one punch, he's not taking unnecessary risks on those fights because he just dominate with his skills.
In the case of Cotto, he just opted to box with Margarito, Clottey and Mosley, three iron chinned welterweight, not without having trade with them before. In the Clottey's fight it's understandable due to his cut, you know he could've asked his corner to stop the fight and win a decision in rds #4 or #5 because he was clearly ahead on the scorecards. Both fighters deserve credit, but it's ok if you don't like them.
Great post
I like to add that fighters like Dawson, Floyd, Cotto, Dirrell, and Haye don't like pressure. So the **** what. They do what they have to do to win even if they have to get on there backfoot. The game is to be hit and not get hit. Calderon has a similar style. It's funny I don't hear nobody talking shit about him. To much Nationalistic Pride on this site.

I know you try and say you're not a Cotto hater, but you are. Whether you wanna see it or not, you are.
Look at the 3 people he's done that against...Margarito, Mosley, and Clottey. 3 guys that are VERY difficult to hurt. When you feel you have a lead, and you don't feel that you can KO the guy, you win the fight the smart way. There is nothing wrong with that.
And even in the rounds where Cotto "ran" against Mosley, they were still competitive rounds. You can make a case for him even winning the 9th as Mosley didn't do shit for the first half of the round. The 10th was a close round too as Cotto really came on towards the end.
Straight up man, not tryin to be a dick but you only see what you want to see.

cotto won the fight
Good post.
A lot of people fail to recall the fact that Mosley was the guy who started boxing and moving first when Cotto started to outland them in their exchanges in the 4th, 5th and part of the 6th round. Mosley changed his tactics toward the end of the 6th and it helped him. Cotto then changed his tactics, but for some reason Cotto gets shit for it where Mosley's change was perceived as a smart move.

What this is based on is even wrong.
Cotto gets SO much shit for how he fought in the late rounds against Mosley and Clottey. Your acting like everyone praises him, that's bullshit he gets more shit for that than Dawson does.
And, when he started boxing against Mosley, he was very far ahead on the cards. The fight tightened up when Mosley came on in the 9th and 10th. After 8 it was like 6-2. Mosley also re-opened the cut inside Cotto's mouth from the Judah fight.
In the Clottey fight, yea he was moving, cause he couldn't see any right hands coming, he had to be careful. And when it mattered, he stepped up in the championship rounds.
People go out of their way to criticize Cotto and Dawson. It's really fukking stupid.

Bump. And I'll bump it after the Cotto-Pac fight too, because we know that Cotto will run in that fight as well.
cotto won need to run from an opponent that he is bigger and stronger than.
he backpedals against stronger and bigger opponents like mosely, margo, and clottey and hits them cleanly while moving.
pac is not bigger and stronger than cotto
pac is also not a inside or pressure fighter. so I do not see any scenario were pac would force cotto to move like he did he down the stretch against mosely or clottey.

Cotto was on his bike outboxing teh shot out of Shane Mosley, landing hard punches on Mosleys face.
Cotto ha only gone, 4 times on his bike against N.dou for the last 3 rounds, stilll beat the shit out o N'dou.
Against Mosley te last 3 rounds again, landing hard punches while moving and mking his oppoenent look like a fool.
against margarito, he was putting on a clinic till he got stopped
Against Clottey, the game plan, was to push Clottey back, but since Clottey neadbutts te shit out of everyody, Cotto had to adjust during the fight to win it. because with one eye, its hard to stand and trade toe to toe.
Chad Dawson, not only runs, he dont throw fukkin punches and he still get gassed!!
get a grip buddy!!!!1
Dawson is never the aggressor when he fights a guy like Glen Johnson or Tomasz Adamek, so I can see your point there. And Cotto is aggressive when the situation calls for it. I unerstand what you're saying. Good post.
