How would you know if a boxer is in his prime anyway?
Cotto just lost to Margarito.
Would you consider any fighter who continuously win and just lost taking away his status as a prime fighter?
In your own view, how would you define a prime figher?
They're both in the there primes. Although some question whether Cotto might be but I don't think he is. He might be a bit more gun shy since Margarito but i wouldn't call him past his prime.
I don't care that he's not technically old, I think Cotto is past his mental prime. He has doubts now that will never be erased.
I can agree with you on this.
I think Mental fitness is what makes a boxer prime.
Everything is affected if you're not mentally aligned or focus.
Then one could argue that Floyd Mayweather is not in his prime anymore. He does not believe in himself and has a lot of doubts when fighting he's going to fight against top contenders.

i hear everywhere from columnist and interviews that Pacquiao is in his prime.
And same with Cotto.
Pac is about 30 years old and has about 54 fights already which is a lot compared to other boxers this decade.
and yet most people are saying now that Pac is in his prime.
So now, can we say that age and number of fights a boxer have doesn't have anything to do with being and becoming a prime fighter?
So some of you guys are saying if a boxer looses, he loses his prime.
Is Tito Ortiz not a prime fighter anymore?
How about other young fighters?
So what you're saying is if you lose you need to rebuild to be a prime fighter?
can a boxer rebuild his status being a prime fighter in just one excellent fight?
This thread needs to be recalled after Nov. 14, I'm sure there will be plenty of contradictions going around no matter who wins.
Pac is still in his prime, he has had an incredibly long prime, but he is still prime. Cotto I'm not so sure about, I think he is still prime he's just in danger of being burnt out from having so many big fights over a 3 year period.
I think Cotto's prime was Margarito. Anyway, he looked pretty good against Clottey as Joshua is very very hard to look good against (impossible to?) and he had that epic cut.
This is prime v prime in my eyes.
prime is often defined after a fight..not before.
thats why people give fighters odds to beat some guy..and then when they lose...are called shot.
Like DLH against PBF...or DLH against Pac for that matter
To me a prime fighter is someone that hasn't been beaten in a long time..or beaten yet, that is just on a wild streak tearing through any opposition they come against, and making it look easy.
I'd say Pac is in his prime. I question whether Cotto is, though. He hasn't really torn through an opponent, or easily defeated an opponent, in a while.
But, that could just be testament to his level of opposition, too...who knows. We'll see.
