COTTO wasnt able to get to Margarito's body, He never really landed that big left hook to the body against Mosley.
He did a decent job going to the body against Clottey, but Clottey just stood there.
And then on the flipside, Pacquiao is almost never hurt to the body. IN recent fights he is never worn down or hurt from a consistant body attack. He just moves around to quickly and too well, and he avoids the ropes very well too.
Pacquiao is much more difficult to hit then he is given credit for. Although all of pacmans opponents recently have been slow, and Cotto is by far the the fastest opponent Pacquiao has fought above 130 pounds
Point being, If Cotto isnt able to work the body i dont think he will be able to win the fight. And judging from both fighters histories, it's an uphill battle working the pacmans ribs.
Thoughts?
Are you considering Oscar and Hatton? Marquez is not known for been a big body puncher but got to his body often.
And he visibly hurt Manny to the body.
yea but those shots were counter shots most times, while pacquiao was jumping in.
Cotto isnt much of a counter puncher.
Cotto is actually a pretty good counter puncher, not great but good. It all comes down to a couple things;
Can Cotto avoid/walk through Manny's shots and be effective with his offense if he can he will put a lot of punishment on Manny.
If Cotto is able to land can Manny take the punishment?
Can Cotto find a way to take Manny's lead left away? This is Manny's bread and butter. Manny wins fights on this punch alone.
Can Manny find a way to back Cotto up, at least at times. I think he will have to do this to win.
Can Cotto get to the body of Manny? The guy is quick but Cotto showed he seems to be able to land body shots even on a south paw.
One intangible is simply Manny appears to have had a very inconsistent and unfocused training camp. Will this matter, maybe. Manny is going to be heavier than he is use to, may need to use his legs even more than usual and be able to fight into the latter rounds.
I have to say this is the most intriguing fight scheduled in some time. No wonder all the hype.
I will be geniuinly shocked if Pac can put Cotto on the floor early. I personally believe its more likely Pac will taste the canvas....one thing though if they draw will Pac immediately rematch or will it be another wait like the Marquez fight.
I think Pac winning is better for attracting casual fans but I don't really wanna see Cotto lose, especially not in an embarrassing fashion (getting knocked out early like Roach claims)
david diaz touch pac body more than a few times but he got an ass whoopin for his effort. but getting hit to the body had more to do with pac being on the attack. he can't be that offensive minded in the beginning with cotto.
Partly cuz he ain't focused on it as much. Cotto ain't been the same bodystalker at WW as he was at JWW. But this is a gr8 fight for him to bring it back. 1 perfect body punch can crush lil Pac.
Well the three top wins Miguel has over southpaw's were largely due to his body punching. I don't think he'll be able to win without making an impression there.
Close Fight
I think Pac is definitly more explosive than anyone Cotto has fought. Judah had speed but does not throw from odd angles like Pac nor does he have the foot speed. I think Cotto is going to come forward and be setting the tempo early. I give Pac an edge but lets be real Pac might have a hard time hurting Cotto at this weight. He has taken shots from Mosley, Judah, and took a beating from hands of plaster and was never in danger until the end. I gotta believe if Pac lands a big shot and Cotto takes it well he might be in trouble.
Cotto already said he just couldn't get to Margs body and everytime he tried he got caught with the uppercut. Cotto is more verstaile than alot of you are saying, I just think come fight night when Pacman tastes REAL welterweight power he'll know Cotto is the truth and will ultimately get knocked out, so he needs to worry about any kind of flush shot, not just body shots.
WHY? seriously? why do you insist on this constant puteria? it doesn't get old for you? how old are you? good god you're immature as ****.
How about you loosen up and quit taking jokes so seriously. Whats the deal with the uppercase letters; getting up in arms as if you are part of the mans family? I think you asking me my age, and labeling me immature on a fukking forum during a fight buildup highlights how god damn immature you are. Now that is what I consider to be "puteria". Get a grip, and learn how to take some humor, if not, don't try to act smart and smear.
Like Roach said, Cotto will try to be like Juan Manuel Marquez, and that's exactly what were seeing now in Cotto's training. WHY? Because of Pacquiao's head movement and mobility it's largely going to remove Cotto's jab and body work--the only way Cotto will get a chance hurt Manny like is if he bull rushes him which I don't think will happen. Expect Pacquiao to move clockwise like crazy while trying to counter punch Cotto. When Pacquiao becomes the aggressive one expect Cotto to suddenly back off like Juan Manuel Marquez and counter punch himself.
thats what freddy hopes for but its not going to happen.:boxing:
To TS go and watch the david diaz fight and come back and tell me that diaz did not land body punches. he did and often, so don't think that cotto will not land them because he will. the only difference is that diaz did not have enough power to hurt manny; trust me, cotto will..
streetbully with his cannot hit what he can't see.. that is cliche of the worst.
im still waiting for an explanation of how margarito was in a worst situation when he face mosley than cotto when he faced maragarito...

if cotto can back pac up against the ropes, he will go to the body.
Pacquiao isn't going to back Cotto up, Cotto will be able to work the body coming forward. He has his complete arsenal coming forward. It's when he backs straight up he has problems.
thats a good point, but Pacquiao will be out of range constantly, and if Cotto wants to hit the body he'll either have to reach or counter. It will be a struggle for him i believe
Cotto better wear some brown colored ecko trunks, because he will be shitting himself in there cove the 14th.
