Michael Nunn on the way up the ranks heard there was a destroyer in England about the same age who would be his future rival.
I can't believe Benn and Nunn never fought. It's mad really. Multi-million money fights were offered from '88 to '95 but it never happened!
The ultimate contrast in styles etc, transatlantic..
Benn was offered the Nunn fight, but turned it down for The McClellan fight, which was much more lucrative.
The sound has been put back.
Thats still one of the best highlights i have ever seen !
Went to see Benn fight twice...what a gunslinger of a fighter he was...you never felt short changed when he fought !...he just went for the kill and that was it lol:boxing:

Great video. Benn was a real warrior. Would of been great to see fights between Benn, Eubank, Toney and Jones.
I think Eubank and Benn are a little under-rated by many American boxing fans.
Benn was excellant. I seen him fight twice live. He could be outboxed, but the guy was a warrior, defo one of the most exciting fighters from the UK ever! The public loved him. He just loved to throw leather. Without doubt a legend.
About the benn= roy jones matchup. If the gerald mCclellan situation never happend they probably would have fought. Emotions were runnin very high at the time, plus benn was commin to the end, obviously it was'nt meant to be. It certainly was nothing to do with Benn or roy bottling it.
benn actually turned down a roy jones million dollar payday after the mclellan fight. jones wanted vengeance but benn wanted none of it.
Benn was finished after that fight. A match with Jones would have been meaningless.
Benn was offered $10million to face Jones from Jones's people. But he was still under contract to Don King (the contract ran out on the Malinga fight in Newcastle, England).
King was prepared to put up $50million. But Jones thought King would use McClellan's tragic state to bill Benn-Jones as a 'revenge mission' and so refused to fight if King was involved.
Benn of course lost that Malinga fight, but rumour was that he was going to accept the offer from Jones's people.
Just after 7.30 minutes of the vid, Benn doesnt deny he was offered 50 to fight Jones.
Thats crazy! But that doesnt mean its true.
Benn seemed to want to go out against Jones in his final fight.
It's true, typeones brother lived a few doors down from Collins.
Do your home work prove me wrong!! You look about you will find that I am right!Collins reportedly stated in the press that he had no motivation left as he had spent the best part of his career chasing Roy Jones Jr. for a unification fight that had been promised to him many times. A fight with Calzaghe would do nothing to satisfy the desire he had for fighting Jones. He then added he wanted to retire on a high note with a good pay day, "Joe is a good up-and-coming kid, but he wouldn't fill a parish church".
In 1999, he announced his decision to come out of retirement in order to fight Roy Jones Jr. Jones is said to have offered in excess of £3 million for the fight. Collins is said to have been suspicious regarding the money that Jones was offering and said to the papers that "for £3 million I would fight Mike Tyson"; this only spurred the spin doctors to assume it was a challenge at Iron Mike.
Controversy surrounded the fight as it was rumoured that Collins would have to fight Calzaghe first before a showdown with Jones. Collins had accepted this and started to prepare to fight Calzaghe. In his preparation training for the fight that was never to be, Collins collapsed during sparring. When doctors told him that blows to the head could result in his death, he retired for a second time.
He is reported to have stated in Boxing World that he has spent so long chasing Roy Jones Jr that money was not an important factor any more and that he would "fight him in a phone box in front of two men and a dog".
Collins retired with his then wife and children to the town of Bangor, County Down, with a record of: W 36 (21 KOs) - L 3.
Sure, i understand sometimes people make up online lives because they want to feel important. I'll play along if it makes you feel better.
I am a grown man I dont need to come on and make shit up!?? Whats that all about.. As I said I am just putting a bit of light on the subject... Benn is my fav fighter you don't see many fighters who fights like he did, He fought for himself and he fought for the fans..He couldn't have done anymore than he did for the sport!:boxing:
After the battles that Benn had been through the punches he had already taken, A fight with Jones was a step to far to late.
Roy Jones said in an interview in the ring before a fight that he had offered Benn and Collins $1m to fight him.
Wither this is true or not is a different story? Benn wasn't one to duck opponents.
Colins went to the U.S chasing Jones for a fight and Jones did not want to know!

I tell you what you need to do little man is karm the fuk down.. Benn knew that he would not beat Jones at that time! Its a fact. I use to live a few doors away from him in Burges Road Eastham nob jockey. I didnt say that he wouldn't fight him as he would fight him anywhere any time. That fact is that this was not a good fight for Benns Health. You read what you want, you can watch what you want, But behind the scene it was a no go.
I can't see any true boxing fans not giving Ben his props!

I've posted a video with Benn saying he wanted to fight Jones, I've posted an interview with Jones and Jones say's Don King stopped him from facing Benn. Not one of you doubters have posted any evidence that Benn was offered a fight. Post some evidence or shut the **** up.
