This is true and documented. He said numerous times way before hopkins he was going to go up to Light Heavyweight because making weight was becoming a problem for him. It's not a knock on him either, that usually happens to guys as they get older. Hopkins was never a middleweight, he was a slimmed-down lhw! calzaghe was never a supermiddle he was a natural cruiserweight during his career(now hes a natural blimp) he used his massive size advantage to pick on blown up middles like woodhall, eubank and hopkins. the only reason he didn't get sparked out cold is cause he outweighed his opponents by 30 pounds.

Calzaghe did have problems, on occassions, trying to meet the 168 limit.

for one brief moment in time life had meaning again. but alas false alarm. calzaghe isn't coming back.

it would have called for nice fights and bigger tests than peter manfredo. I'm sure the Manfredo fight was all about extra exposure for the American tv, considering Manfredo had just competed in the contender.
