whos the better fighter? in terms of resume, accomplishments and skills
on a side note-is it fair too say a prime Tsyzu would dominate 140 and a prime mosley would dominate 147 right now?
You're saying Vince Phillips is better then Cotto, Forrest, and Wright?
ffs. NO! if i was speaking and not typing right now, this bit would be said very slowly: go and research the history of the junior welterweight division, then come back and we can have a sensible conversation!
Show me a video of when Mosley was brutally stopped.
Losing to Forrest, Cotto, Wright > Vince Phillips
lol is this all you can come up with? i'll tell you again, go and do a little research into the junior welterweight division, and then come back.
That is all I'll remember him for! Also the way Phillips stopped him was devastating! Vince Phillips the bad ass!!! Vince Phillips the ATG!
yeah and? mosley has been beaten aswell uno! in all honesty, if you cant recognise that tszyu is 1 of the best if not the best 140lb fighter then you obviously dont know much about the history of the junior welterweight division.
tsyzu performed badly against phillips, and i think you proved in your post how different career his would have been had he beat him, still surprised he never avenged that loss
i think the bolded parts show each guys different motivation-and both are good reasons for doing what they did
out of curiosity how do you think tsyzu would have done against oscar at 140?
I had this whole thing a while back about Tszyu and Phillips but it's been so long that I have to see the fight again to make sure I still feel the same way. Have to find that fight.
Tszyu vs. Oscar: not sure. Oscar back then had a great jab (with a healthy shoulder I think still at that point) and a great left-hook. Tszyu was technically sound but depending at which point, he had certain flaws.
Take the Phillips fight for example, and again, I need to see that fight again to make sure in order to compare...but, I remember Tszyu not moving his head as much and not keeping distance like he normally does...instead, just thinking he could stand there with Phillips and take it and dish it out with him...which ended up costing him. One thing that fight showed was that Tszyu had a very good chin and could take punishment. Phillips was landing clean shot after clean shot and I guess Tszyu just thought he could take it and eventually get to Phillips.
This tends to go with the ego boost of being Champion.
Maybe it is just coincidence but Tszyu seemed better at being the heavy underdog than the heavy favorite. Maybe he bought into his press-clippings.
Not sure who would win a fight between Oscar vs. Tszyu...or even Shane vs. Tszyu. If we go off the Phillips fight, both Oscar and Shane have a solid shot at beating him...but was it because of Phillips or was it because of what Tszyu got away from doing?
Again, have to go back and review the tapes to give you a more confident answer.
Maybe they have that fight in the Video Trading Block section.
That is because this isn't close, Mosley took more risks in his career and has the better wins. Why the **** did anyone vote for Kostya? Wow, he beat Zab Judah and so did about a billion other boxers like Clottey, Cotto, Mayweather, Spinks.... Big whoop.
because tszyu will go down as 1 of the best if not the best light welterweight of all time. mosley wont go down as the best or 1 of the best a division has ever seen.
Eh...you saved me some time. Got knocked back while trying to add to my post.
Who skipped him???
I thought it went like this:
Oscar was set to face Kostya but Kostya lost to Phillips...so Oscar moved on.
Shane said the weight was killing him at 135 and 5 pounds wasn't going to be enough, plus he (like everybody else), wanted O$car so WW was Gold.
Point again with Tszyu: He could have moved up to 147 and made tons of money against big name fighters at 147 and set a greater legacy if he won...but he was set on getting back the JrWW title...which it's hard to blame him. He may have had to do it just to get the prestige back to even fight the big name guys in the sport...not sure.
Another thing that made it difficult for Tszyu to fight certain fighters is fighting on Showtime instead of HBO which may or may not have been his fault. Money tends to dictate where you go but big fights will help make you that money.

i think kostya was 2 dangerous for his own good, the huge names ignored him and some even skipped 140 altogether-he wasnt as marketable as guys like dlh or mosley and maybe that harmed his legacy
he should have stepped up in weight maybe but he was pretty much the perfect light-welter and he owned the division
the balco scandal is always at the back of your mind when assessing mosley i find, which is a shame, but it is what it is

Still debating this myself.
But would you favor anybody that Kostya fought at 140 over Mosley?
Tszyu still lost to Phillips by KO and never had the rematch. Not sure on the story behind that though as far as him wanting it or not.
And maybe it can't be held against him but some people make a point: Mosley stepped up to the competition. Tszyu had a chance when the WW division was loaded with talent like Oscar, Shane, Tito, Forrest....
One big knock on Shane for me is not that he lost to Forrest or even Winky (since Winky was a JrMW)...but the Balco scandal.

Both are Hall of Famers but not ATG...so I would say they are about equal. Their differences are not miles apart. Although Mosley had the better competition...he lost to the majority of them. Mosley Dominated Lightweight but not as dominant as Kostya did at 140.

Wouldn't hold the KO to Hatton to much against him because of where he was at in his career.

I'll may go with Shane since he won titles in many divisions and stepped up against better competition and won.
Tszyu had the chance but didn't move up to 147 when the division was hot with Oscar, Forrest, Tito...and Shane (who did move up there).
The only two big knocks Tszyu has with me is not moving up to 147 (since people like to say Oscar and Shane avoided him which wasn't true) and losing to Phillips and not rematching him.
I just don't see how Tszyu can be higher than Mosley just because he dominated one division. It wasn't like it was a packed division with HOF fighters. Mosley could have done the same against the same if he stuck with one division...140.
But in his prime, Tszyu was great.
Not sharpshooting KT...........i think he was great.......just that Mosley took more risk and challenges.................hence greater
ye thats fair enough
ive been thinking about it and mosley takes it for me also, not by as much of a margin as some people on here are making out though
Obviously another thread to get a debate about Hatton and Cotto.
Kostya was better at 140 than Mosley is at 147.
their weights have nothing too do with my question
Kostya because I'm a Kostya hugger. :D He could be compared to SRR and I'd still vote KT. Only way that I would against him is against Sal Sanchez.
