Why is it ok to support fighters from your country but not your ethnicity?

This is a serious problem on these boards. Everyone has their biases but to diss or dislike another can make those biases problematic. For instance, if Tunney was just some guy who loved European fighters, he'd be a joy. The problem is, along with that love, he degrades other races quite a bit. So then it's not really about reppin' your hood anymore, is it? I agree with this.

Ethnicity and Nationality have nothing to do with why I root for the guys I root for. I root for people I identify with and respect. I'm white, and my favorite current fighters are Bernard Hopkins, Juan Manuel Marquez, Joan Guzman, Joel Casamayor, and Eddie Chambers. Granted the "Philly thing" has a little to do with Hopkins and Chambers, but it's really a very small part of it. If they were from Boise, Idaho, I'd still root for them because I admire the level of their craft, as well as how they've come up in the game.

I don't know man, but I'm white as hell and Jermain Taylor, Edison Miranda, Shane Mosley and Bernard Hopkins are 4 of my favorite fighters and when they lose, it hurts me. Specially Jermain, I don't want to see him hurt ever again :(

Gotta back your countrymen. they help putting your country on the map. Are you slow? What is racist about supporting people of similar ethnicity? Humans are inherently tribal. There's nothing racist about it fool. Cos normal non-racist people dont support fighters based on their ethnicity "fool".

yeah I personally dont get that if my neighbor was a boxer why I should blindly root for him but to each their own. It clearly a very common thing to do, no big deal but it clouds judgement so can be annoying in the discussion forum setting.

support who ever you want for what ever reason, just dont hate anyone because of their race and it is fine.
