Finally. The first fight of the hyped supersix tournament is tonight in Berlin's O2 arena where 11,000 people will make this a sell out.
There's no title on the line as Arthur Abraham vacated his IBF middleweight title to participate in this supermiddleweight tournament. It is however still 12 rounds.
It's Arthur Abraham (Germany/Armenia):

I just see so many flaws in Taylor's game, and not only his stamina, that it's difficult for me to consider him well-schooled. He gets away with a lot due to sheer talent.
yeah agreed on the bold
granted Taylor didn't look nearly as tired in round 12 as say vs Froch
but he still wastes so much energy throwing into Abe's guard
and that glove touching his face thing just looks plain stupid
Why is it not effective? It was effective enough to break through Winky Wrights guard,it was effective enough to hurt Kelly Pavlik which eventually lead to him dropping Pavlik.
I don't think it really broke through Winky's guard that effectively. Pavlik was hurt with a combination of punches, one of them being an elbow.
The wild right hands are actually part of the reason why he wasn't able to finish Pavlik.
Is Abraham still garbage?
garbage with explosive power, yes, as ive always said......i knew jt would lose...but i was backing my guy....he looked flat as hell though which i did not expect.........his confidence is shot..........but **** it. he is still my guy...
disagreed. Taylor was throwing plenty early on .. and much of the board going crazy about Abe doing so little
but notice as the fight progressed how that strong jab of Taylor's got weaker and used less and less round after round
Taylor faught one-handed. He threw alot but jabs mostly.

nah.... JT did not throw enough right hands.

Kesslers statement after the fight, not mine.

The right hand has power no doubt if it lands but it's not very effective.
I've always considered Abraham one of the best punchers in the sport. Sure he has only been knocking over European opposition in the past but it's the way he knocks people out that makes me think he has brutal power. It cannot be disputed any longer after this performance, surely.
And some of the "European" opponents Abraham fought were world class at middleweight (which is a rather weak division but still). See his KO of Khoren Gevor for example.
Taylor has a fine jab (credit to AA for neutralizing it). He moves very well and have some good defensive maneuvers. And that right hand is still hard enough to put down Froch.
AA will be the most feared man in the tourney after this. Not only do you have to worry about that sick power, but you'll also have to work hard to outpoint him.

Kessler: Taylor didn't throw enough, seemed frustrated with Abrahams tight guard, didn't use his right hand enough.

I don't think Taylor is necessarily "well-schooled" but I agree that Abraham even with his rather economical style will be difficult to outpoint for anybody.
I agree with jreckoning also, I've always felt that Taylor has one of the worst right hands in the sport. He throws it like a pitcher throws a baseball...

AA's jab and defense are very nice.
He takes rounds off though which may cost him later.
This tourney is him or Kessler's for the taking.
Kessler vs. AA in the final would be a sick fight.
Agree. If anybody had doubts regarding AA's ability to win on points against a well-scooled fighter they have vanished now (I'm talking about myself :) )

That is ridiculous.
Do you know how many guys are going to be wary of his late round power.
They are gonna be gun shy.
When you go to the body u get hit by A counter to the head by one of the hardest punchers in the game.
No exposed going on here.

**** this shit.........taylor is still the man, i wish he wouldve gone 12......his confidence is shot though.....and he fought pretty flat........id say he needs to retire, gave it a shot to stay on the elite, but he just doesnt have the smarts-body to go along with that warrior heart....
Is Abraham still garbage?
Abraham just validated himself as a serious contender, and no one is gonna feel safe stepping into the ring with him. Taylor is done, and what are the rules if he doesn't continue in the tournament? the Kessler-Abraham final is gonna be a joy to watch.

The problem with that is that JT is off balance after he throws his right hand.
It's a huge bad habit and AA can hook like no one's business.
Once jt got hit a few times he got way more cautious.
AA never countered when Taylor when to the body. You can say that Taylor was hesitate to land to the body because he would of been penalized, but from the looks of it Taylor doesn't know how to throw body punches. You're suppose to throw the jab to setup combinations and Taylor failed to do that.
Even with only a few seconds left in the fight, I still thought the KO was going to come. Abraham often saves the best for last, for example against Elvin Ayala.
It was a pretty traditional Abraham performance I'd say.
I admit it was difficult to see Taylor in that way. Would have rather seen him go the full 12 rounds.
