I'm not a pro boxer now and I claim my roots because thats how I was raised. I dont get why sooooo many people dont seem to understand the point the TS was making, Its pretty obvious that promoters like Top rank, Golden boy are exploiting and putting boxers who are from latino heritage on the spot by having them acknowledge "their" when they would normally wouldnt or when they dont they want to. I'm Mexican-American, but I love Chinese culture. I love their ceremonies, food, traditions and language. I even managed to learn Cantonese and a bit of Mandarin a few summers ago. I want to become a top boxer and represent the U.S., but my manager says I have to pander to the Mexican community which I never truly felt apart of. I know Spanish and I've followed Mexican traditions to a tee, but I never placed too much importance in them other than that they were what I grew up with. And yet they never defined who I was. I figured I could be Chinese, American or anything else as long as I immersed myself in the language and culture. Then I began to realize that race did not necessarily have to define who I was as a person. It would only define me if I wanted it to. So I ignored my manager's advice and sold myself as who I was. Not what people choose to label me. I ended up building a fan base of Mexicans anyway, because of my style of fighting and last name, without ever having to put a single Mexican flag or sombrero anywhere on my body. True Story.

Some actually do. All over Central and South America the white people migrate back to Spain or Portugal. Even in the states you got people proud that their German or English etc etc. Why ALL of them don't take pride to every fine detail of who they are is obvious. Some are too mixed and some are just proud to be American or just proud to be Mexican. A lot of us have some Spanish ancestry, but you wouldn't know it unless you took a f*ckin DNA test.....since that's the only way to see that shit. well what ever dude, the fact is that frauds do exist.

As a Mexican-American who doesn't speak a word of spanish, screw you. When I go to the gym, I feel a strong sense of pride to perform well to honor my Mexican heratige. Do you feel the same way about your German heratige? Like you need to over-perform to uphold the good name of your ancestry? I know those that came before me and the "don't quit" attitude so that's something I have in the back of my head when I fight. Do I need to learn Spanish? Of course. I feel like I let Latino's down when the come into my work and I can't communicate with them. It's something I plan to learn. I've never been to Mexico and I even attended a predominantly white school. But I guarantee you, that no one feels more pride about their bloodlines and heratige than I do.
