Trying to see how popular the good old Ring mag is with the boxingscene crowd. I know that magazines in general aren't that popular because of online news outlets but I just prefer to read printed media sometimes instead of getting online. I also don't want to bring my laptop when I want to read on the shitter.
I don't have a subscription but I pick up every new issue at 7-11 and I have been for awhile. It's ridiculously expensive but it's a solid magazine with great articles and photography. BHops 'perfect execution' articles are always cool.
I think a lot of people pick it up and flip through it, maybe checkout a few articles and put it back on the shelf but I like to collect them so I fork over the 10 bucks. Its crazy going back and reading issues from like 05 where they say Hopkins should be thinking about retirement and now its almost 2010 and hes on a winning streak at LHW.
I'm a subscriber, but I've become very critical since GBP took over and their ratings is under heavy scrutiny as far as I'm concerned.
With Ring Magazines glorious history I think the ratings comitee has to do a better job in ensuring that the rankings is and appears independent. I'm afraid certain rankings today looks to favour GBP fighters and that might lead to a new low for a magazine that the sport needs as the beaming independent and reliable beacon.
Ever since I found out Ring Magazine was owned by a DLH I have never read another page. I realized that its mostly biased propaganda shit with a few good articles once in awhile.
Only online for free.
I'm not gonna pay for a propaganda mag owned by a promoter.
I'm no sucker.
regardless of the "propaganda" the articles are well done, interesting and informative. if you enjoy both boxing and reading it's a solid magazine. I wouldn't say buying it can make you a sucker but to each his own
I used to a few yrs ago. Eventually I said fukk it. Never had time to read it at work, which is really why I got it. Can always get boxing news online for free at the crib.
