Simple question: If Floyd were to take another 'tune up' type fight in December, would you criticize him?
Personally - as long as the tune up was against a top 10-20 welterweight (and on regular HBO), I would vote "no". I think another "stay busy" type fight would be a good idea.
Also - If you considered this as one last tune up before he faced pac-cotto winner or mosley - who would you consider a good opponent? My personal pick would be collazo.
Floyd take 5 months off the least. Especially now that he must fight a real opponnet.
Young Mike - I think taking a five month layoff would be a mistake after an almost 2 year layoff. Especially if you believe that Mayweather's best days are in the past. If you consider that his next 3 possible opponents are one of Pacquiao, Cotto, or Mosley - staying busy might be the best move. I don't care how good you are - you would be doing yourself a disservice to fight any of these guys when you are not at your absolute best!
He could if he really plans to fight his next fight in the UK.
Therefore he can fight some bum for his UK fans.
And get some light work in.... BEFORE HE FIGHTS THE WINNER OF pac VS. cOTTO
Just like Roy Jones is doing with Danny Green... He is getting some light work in before he fights Hopkins...
Isaac Hlatshwayo ,OR uk native Kell Brook, would be a great light work fight him...
he can do it in the UK....
Build up his base more over there and after that fight HE CAN put his fight with Pacquaio or Cotto on P.P.V in the UK...!!
and anybody critical of this move need to learn boxing history
Juilo Ceasar Chavez use to take stay busy fights all the time he used to fight every month fighting fighters with only 3 career pro fights when he has already fought 60+ fights...
So those whose who would hate on him taking stay busy fights...Dont know boxing

Horus, I have to agree with you here. I really think that after a nearly 2 year layoff, May might want to get in there with a legit welter just to see where he is. Lets not take anything away from Marquez, but at the end of the day he was a guy moving up two weight classes. Add to that the fact that he had just a couple fights at 135. There was also the weight controversy. It might just make sense to take perhaps one more "upper echelon" tune up against a game welter. That way he could wait to see what happens with Pac-Cotto. Meanwhile Mosley could go ahead and fight (and defeat) Berto. If everything were to play out like I think it would, it would just make for a bigger "main event".
No more tuneups. He can't anyway. HBO already bumped SSM to January. Pac-Cotto winner or SSM better be next.
Mangler - always respect for you.
I think I might slightly disagree with you here. If Floyd was to beat a legitimate welter on regular HBO, I think it might up the ante a bit on his next elite opponent. In my (very humble) opinion, most people have written off his win against Marquez due to many factors. If he were to defeat an actual rated welter, it might serve to silence the criticisms that he received against Marquez as well as sharpen his own skills/confidence a bit. However - you may just be right about HBO. Perhaps the money just isn't there...
If he does fight in December that rules out Cotto or Pacquiao, and since Mosley is supposed to fight in January it won't be him either most likely.
Lamont Peterson anyone?
