The Ring ratings are biased to Golden Boy Fighters. There's a serious conflict of interest there. If Cotto wins they're putting him at number 3. 1. Floyd 2. Shane 3. Cotto
I'm not sure really. P4P seems to work best when both recent achievements and ability are taken into account, kind of half objective half subjective, and here you'd have Cotto with the edge on recent merit and Mayweather on skills
I think The Ring would definitely bump Mayweather up to 1st for what it's worth.
That had less to do with who Floyd beat this time as it did with Floyd's body of work. He got re entered at #2 because he retired at number one...not cause he beat the p4p #2.
If he had come back to beat Berto or someone like that, he still woulda been ranked #2.
I'm not saying Floyd doesn't deserve to be placed up there because he's clearly one of the most skilled fighters in the game but if coming back after 2 years and getting the #2 spot by beating someone like Berto, then it throws the whole P4P system into disrepute IMO.
Shit, Mosley got pushed up to #3 the day after he confronted Mayweather in the ring LOL.
I think he'd have to fight other guys as well as Floyd, like maybe Berto, and others with names in the ranks that would eliminate all doubt. Remember, to be the best, you have to beat the best, and there's a lot of good talent out there.
Well going by Ring magazines logic, Mayweather came back from a 2 year lay off and jumped right in at #2 after he beat the guy that was #2. If Cotto beats the #1 guy then surely the same logic should apply?
If not, the P4P system is flawed to bits IMO.
It is flawed.
No it wouldn't. Mr boat buyer shouldn't be back at #2 for beatin a LW at WW, but it is what it is. If Cotto beats lil Pac and Mr boat buyer, he'd get the top spot.

Of course not.
If he went on to beat Floyd after, then he would.
