I don't subscribe to his newsletter but this shows the guys tracking methods are full of shit and he's biased as fukk. The thing is, the UFC is a private company meaning, it has no obligation to report these things to the athletic commissions. Look, the point is this. Firstly, when UFC started gaining some sales, its Management and their fans started to hate hardcore on boxing fans.. If by 'its management' you mean Dana White. I've only heard him tell the truth, as far as how he felt about the state of boxing, and the greedy promoters who were killing the sport. You may find this hard to believe but Dana White comes from a boxing background. Before he took over as UFC president, he was managing his own boxing gym, as well as boxers. He has always stated that he is a boxing fan, but was dissapointed with the way the sport was being milked, and the fans were being robbed blind. during a time where boxing was not making that great of match-ups, but still pretty good to the true boxing fans because we love the sport... That was part of his whole problem with the way boxing was being run was exactly what you said: Boxing was not making great fights. Another part of the problem is that the fans really had no choice but to support it, for the reason you stated. Boxing fans had nothing else to get their boxing fix with, so they had to take the shitty product that was being offered at the time. Now when Boxing is doing well again, and UFC PPV number creditability are being questioned, the UFC managment and fan base are getting defensive, acting like little bitches and changing the argument. I would argue that a large part of why boxing is on the up and up is because promoters finally realized that they could not get away with putting on shitty cards and fights. Boxing is a contract between two fighters with the aid of their promoters and other third interested parties such as athletic commissions.. its just how Boxing is That's one huge advantage that the UFC has over boxing is that being under one umbrella, they can virtually make any fight happen whenever they want. I wish boxing was the same way, but when you're dealing with so many different people and egos, sometimes the best fights don't get made for whatever reasons. 3. True boxing fans love the actual sport and not how many numbers it does.. we like when it does well because a lot of times we get better fighters out of it and match-ups that otherwise could not be made because of money problems, but we are going to watch if there was no PPV at all. I agree, the numbers don't make any difference in any of our lives as fans. I've stated several times, I'm a fan of both sports, and as a fan all I can ask for is that I get my money's worth when I do pay. 5. One of the things UFC does very well is that it keeps its cards action packed with good/entertaining fighters. The undercards are what really help the PPV buys. You know you are getting about 4 or 5 fights and depending on how the show goes, upwards of 7 or 8. HBo's ppv construction is pitiful with Lampley and Steward jabbering about subplots, storylines and who knows what else. If boxing can set up better undercards, it will have a real good shot to reach similar numbers of this consistency.

Shocking numbers actually! And this UFC vs. Boxing competition is really annoying... Two sports, and especially two models of fighting. Believe them or not, I could care less. And actually, they are averaging around 500,000 buys per PPV in 2009. Which is solid. But the overall number doesnt necessarily matter, becuse MMA puts on more ppv events than boxing does. I enjoy UFC as well, but keep in mind that Dana White and his comments are the driving force between the split of the two sports.

If you step back and look at the bigger picture though, the UFC has already broken their own record for PPV sales in a year, in any sport. They've sold more than 6 million PPV's this year, with a few more events still yet to come. Exactly. Also that UFC 100 that sold 1.2 million had About 5 huge names fighitng. It would be like having may vs JMM, pacquiao vs cott, and williams vs pavlik on the same card.
