Roach to politics-bound Pacquiao: "Beat Mayweather before retiring"

Pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao is bent on running for office that he’s set his eyes on retiring next year.
But his long-time trainer Freddie Roach has one piece of advice to his politics-bound ward: Beat Floyd Mayweather, Jr. first in an ultimate battle for the mythical P4P title before hanging up your gloves.
“I would like (Manny) to finish with beating Mayweather," Roach said in an interview in Baguio City, where Team Pacquiao is encamped for the Pacman’s training for his upcoming fight with Miguel Cotto.
Pacquiao reasserted his decision to vie for a congressional seat next year, a sign that he was ready to call it a day insofar as his illustrious boxing career is concerned.
"Buo na ang pasya ko. Talagang tatakbo ako," Pacquiao told mediamen at the Baguio City Hall Thursday, when he paid Mayor Reinaldo Bautista, Jr. a courtesy call.
“I will be announcing that (candidacy). Alam mo, kung magserbisyo ka sa mga tao, serbisyo talaga yan e. Ayaw na sana ako palabanin ng mama at pamilya ko. Sabi niya noon, last na yung kay (Ricky) Hatton, sabi ko hindi kasi malayo pa naman ang eleksyion. Pwede pa ako lumaban."
Roach said he would not dissuade his prized pupil from pursuing his political plans and turning his back on boxing.
"I have no problem if he retires. What more can he ask for? He is the greatest fighter of all time," Roach said.
But of course, such greatness won’t be complete without one of the best fighters in this era – Mayweather – in Pacquiao's list of victims. - GMANews.TV

:grumble::grumble::grumble:
Manny wants to fight Mayweather even before the Hatton fight has been made. He wants to settle who is really better between him and has been quoted saying Mayweather is "he is good but not that good". I remember also Roach told Mayweather after he announced his comeback on the day Hatton vs Pacquiao fight pathetically trying to steal the limelight. Roach said "We been looking for you and should tell us early" has been quoted something like this to Mayweather.
I understand what Roach means about "Floyd Needs Pacquiao, We Don't Need Him". We all know Floyd's financial problem and the IRS has been chasing him for quite sometimes now. Thats why he came out from retirement so that he can settle his money issue. In negotiation, Mayweather firmly believes he deserve the much bigger piece of the money. This where the problem lies. We also know he doesn't want a piece of a pure WW fighters like Cotto, Margarito or Mosley before thats why he retired. So the only way to have a big fight big money without risking his "0" is to fight the smaller guy like JMM or Manny Pacquiao. Unlike Pac if he wins against Cotto, he can fight Mosley for another big money fight or simply retire into politics.

Come on Freddie, the greatest of all time? Stop it.
beat me 2 it..thats a sign of a man who talks to much..he always contradicts himself..do you need floyd or not roach??and damn you're talking about floyd more than cotto who pacman has a fight with in a month in a half
Haha will you please learn to read man??? Read both articles and then explain to all of us where the "contradiction" is.

why the fukk do people get mad at roach when these people are asking him questions and he's answering them honestly?
just becuase you don't need to fight someone, doesn't mean you don't want to fight them.
Packy sounds like he don't wanna fight no more. He sounds like it is not in him anymore. He said Ricky was supposed to be his last fight because his mom don't want him to fight anymore and the elections were far off thats why he took the fight. He wants to be a politician. I hope he has his heart into it against Cotto at least.
yeah, and in another interview didn't roach say out of mosley, cotto and mayweather
floyd would be the easiest to defeat?
The man needs to spare himself some dignity and stufu

Hope this fight happens...
Nobody gives floyd that benefit when he bullsh!ts the media all day and night with his outreagous comments, i dont see why we should do the same for roach other than the fact that he represents a fighter you like. context or not.
I would green K you, but I have to spread it around first. :boxing:
some dumb ppl just read the headlines and not see the context it was said. when roach said in another article that floyd needs them more than vice versa, he means if when the negotiations fall thru because floyd would want the lion share of the purse, which wouldnt happen. but in reality, his team really wants to fight floyd before manny retires.

Hold on, but if Roger says Floyd is the greatest fighter ever you would go into this entire diatribe about Floyd ducking this person or not fighting this person. You wouldn't just say "He is entitled to his opinion." I believe the word for that is "hypocrisy".
That is very true.
Cotto is the roadblock in Manny's way. IF Manny loses, I think he retires into politics. Then un-retires to fight again.
Whoever wins stands to make lots of money against Mayweather.

Pac don't have to beat Mr boat buyer, or even Cotto. But those are gr8 wins for him if he can get em somehow.
Who ha Pac beat that is better than Floyd. Name one person. You have been at the forefront of saying Floyd needs to fight SSM or Cotto but now Pac doesn't have to fight Floyd or Cotto? Your hypocrisy knows no bounds. Didn't I tell you to stop that biased bullshit and stick to addressing each fighter with the same standards.:spankme:
