Freddie Roach: "We have a slander case in the works against Floyd Mayweather Sr"

Roach confirms slander case against Mayweather Sr in the works September 17, 11:25 AM Mississippi Fight Sports Examiner Brad Cooney Hall of fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach has confirmed to this writer that a slander case is in the works against Floyd Mayweather Sr. Recently, Mayweather Sr went on the record and accused the pound for pound king, Manny Pacquiao of taking illegal steroids. In response to these allegations,, Roach said, " All of the sudden Floyd Mayweather Sr is an expert on steroids? Tell me what kind of steroids Manny is taking Floyd? Tell me how much you know about steroids, first of all. Steroids had nothing to do with the perfect right hand that Manny landed on your fighter, because you didn't teach him how to get out of the way." Roach is infuriated with these allegations, and goes on to say, " That same punch that we landed on your fighter, is the same one that we'll land on your son, and we'll pass a drug test because we don't take drugs, we don't believe in drugs, and we don't need drugs!" Roach confirms slander case in the works. "I am going to talk to my lawyer, there could be a slander case here, and we will sue him. I talked to Manny, and I talked to an attorney, and we are all on board here. This is all over the place now that Manny is on steroids, it's defaming his name." Actually? No. i do not notice that at all. There are a few aberrations. The Tom Cruise case for example. Besides, those magazines are supposedly "reporting". their articles don't start with "our opinion is...". A more appropriate example for you to use would have been the Op-Ed pages. Or a magazine like Atlantic Monthly. While you may not notice others do. Few? Try lot. For starters: Kate Winslet, Pete Andre, Josh Hartnett, Sharon Osbourne, Teri Hatcher. All who filed lawsuits againsts newspapers, tabloids claiming to have been victims of false stories. And That's just the first page of google results. Aren't those magazines using "opinion" to justify their "reporting". Don't get me wrong. There's obviously a heated debate on what is actually "freedom of speech" and what is deemed libel in these situations. Everyone has a right to their opinion--but the question is, does Manny Pacquiao have a case where his public image is tarnished due to these allegations of Mayweather Sr.'s "feeling" that Manny has taken steroids, which would jeopardize his standing in boxing community as a result effect his livelihood.

I knew Freddie "The Joke Coach" Roach was gonna pull this card. I guess he doesnt realize filing a suit against him for his comments will only draw more attention to them. I wonder what trick he'll have up his sleeve to dodge the Mayweather fight a few months down the road. who cares about the negative attention and what people might think. People like Roach and Manny are purists. They believe in righteousness and are willing to face the consequences and not run and hide. If you got nothing to hide then why are you going to run away from the truth?
