Now the last fantasy match up with Pacquiao and Chavez got way more attention, debate, and confusion then I thought would generate. I definitely don't expect this thread to garner the same attention due to the fact that 135 was Roberto's best weight and he was an absolute menace and terror at that weight, plus the fact Manny didn't stay long at all in the lightweight division and while he was there the competition he faced wasn't stiff to say the least, though he did look spectacular in dismantling Diaz. With all this being said, just as I thought Chavez would have destroyed Pacquiao in the latter rounds of their fantasy match up, I cant help but envision Duran starching Pacquiao early. Let me know what you guys think.
The pinoy's will tear you apart for saying any fight with Pacquiao is a mismatch.
im a pinoy residing here in singapore... im a manny pacquiao fan too...
a sober manny pacquiao fan...
This would have been a exciting matchup. Both look similar in facial as well. Dark looks.
Duran lost to kirklaing laing a british guy as well, but this werent at lightweight.
Duran was great but people did give him decent fights at lightweight even though he pulverised most. Pac would be one he wouldnt pulverise even if he beat him.
JMM is MP's toughest foe IMO...
& anything he can do, mr. duran can do better...
this match-up is pretty unfair...

point is.......... a balance should be made......not to forget the past atg ............and underestimate the current ATG.................when all is said and done its all just opinions................some more likely to happen than others.........but nothing is written in stone................
........why.............oh why...............oh why............
The Duran that fought Ray Leonard was nothing like the monster he was at 135 pounds.
I think he was at his peak in the first Leonard fight.
He was wild at LW. By the time he faced Leonard he was a very skilled fighter, not just looking for a big punch, not missing wildly. He was very experienced, but still fast and strong.
No other LW could have beat Leonard that night.
Also, he was as motivated as he had ever been. At LW he seemed to be going through the motions sometimes.
Anyway, Duran is eats up a very game Pac. Then shits him out in the mid rounds.
I dont know Durans lightweight record by memory. So he lost before at that weight? I dont know if they had p4p tables back then. But im assuming he would have been considered the best boxer on the planet p4p. Even with guys like SRL and Hearns active and in their primes at the time.
Yes, they did and yes, he was considered the best fighter P4P throughout the seventies until the Leonard rematch. He was also the fighter of the decade for the seventies as rated by The Ring, whatever that means to anyone.
Also, yes, he lost one of his seventy/eighty lightweight (well, seventy/eighty including his 118-135 fights before winning the lightweight title) fights in a ten round, non title fight quite early in his career to Esteban De Jesus winning both rematches by KO.
Why do you post things like this.
IT is so obvious that Duran is too strong for Pacquiao...
Why you dont post PAcquiao vs MAcho Camacho Sr.
To me and you, it just may be obvious that Duran would have been too strong and too good for Pacquiao, but to the many others that posted thinking Pac would emerge victorious or at the very least be competitive well, then its not too obvious to them.

How dare you compare Duran to Pacquiao at 135? lol. Pacquiao has only fought once at that weight. DURAN is the king of LIGHTWEIGHTS. No one can beat a prime Duran at lightweight.
This is pretty much all that needs to be said.

Everyone saying Duran by easy KO is ridiculous. He wasn't some unbeatable beast at 135. A great great Lightweight, probably the best ever, but he was tested more than once and beaten as well.
Yes, an easy KO is more or less ridiculous. They are both great, tough guys and I would say it would most likely end up a decision for Duran. If there was a KO, it would come via a body shot from Duran most likely. Pac has been hurt numerous times to the body, KO'd once from a body shot and Duran would hit him with more and harder body shots than ever before in his career, so if it did happen that would be my guess. A brutal body shot late in the fight. I would still bet on a decision though.
