He will not be an idol anymore. Look at Ricky Hatton. Ricky Hatton was the UK boxing fans number one idol. After the Pacquiao fight it's not the same. Cotto had a good run. But noone beats the Pac-Man. Pacquiao destroys Cotto. Hatton just got completely destroyed though. If Cotto fights hard and close like he did against Margarito then loses I dont think it will be that bad.
