There's more martial art variations in the Asia than there are countries, even Africa and Europe have fairly diverse populations of martial artits. Boxing is a refined, sport martial art (using that term very loosely) and is popular in western culture. Eastern culture practice their native martial arts (see muay thai, escrima, judo, etc) for self defense and sport. Hell even in South America some countries do the same (Brazil w/capoeira and Jui Jitsu). Also, due to the location of Mexico in relation to the US, we hear about Mexican boxers more often due to exposure.
