HBO still call him an up and coming prospect.
The guy was supposed to be this huge puncher, but once he stepped up and started fighting some real contenders, he hasn't done anything even remotely exciting.
I've given up on Berto completely.
Back to back lefties didn't help. He may be more fun to watch when hes in there with an orthadox fighter. And to thosesaying he should have KOed Forbes....Oscar didn't knock Forbes down let alone out and Oscar landed clean thoughout the fight. He wanted very badly to fight Mosley so I really don't get how much more he could step up. Having the belt doesn't help. I think Berto Mosley would be fun to watch even if its just Berto cashing out.
Time for Berto to step up. He ought not to be bitchin bout bigger $. He ain't earned it. he had a showcase fight against Urango and stunk it up. He needs to rematch Collazo, but unifyin wit the Isaac guy is ok, if the IBF don't strip him for some shit.
it is because today boxing is attempting to be like wrestling by selling personalities and stories rather than fighters who actually pay dues. get the right promoter have a good story. make big money and exposure. to hell with actually making your bones in the game by actually fighting worthy oponents.
This Andre Berto stuff is bullshit...
He is widely regarded as the weakest welterweight champion, yet people have the attitude, "Give him a couple of soft defences before we put him in with some real live opponents"... THIS STUFF DAMAGES BOXING! The guy won a title which is supposed to signify that he is one of the best in his division. The part I don't understand is why he is now able to cherry pick his opponents. He should be forced to defend against the best that division has to offer NOW not when he is ready after building his resume and number of title defences up on no hopers or people with less than a 30% chance of winning... The only half decent fighter on his resume is Luis Collazo and he didn't even win that convincingly! Wow this is a depressing state of affairs.
Berto needs to drop that belt then he can cherrypick all he wants till he is ready for the top dogs.if he dont drop it the wbc should strip him :boxing:

berto looked promising until he started fighting better competition. then he started struggling. that was ok.
but then his trainer started teaching him to clinch! that's when he lost me as a fan.
The bottom line is that once Berto, Haymon, Dibella and that Eminem trainer he's got realized that his chin was suspect they changed his style. Before he got chin checked for the first time he fought just like he fought in the amateurs, which was all out power and action. Once he got chin checked he turned into a 1--2 guy who would occassionally throw the hook following the right as long as he thought his opponent wasn't in position to punch back. He now 1-2's and holds and takes it to the scorecards. And lets not get to excited about Isaac Hlatshwayo. Isaac Hlatshwayo is a feather fisted blown up lightweight who has been handpicked by the DiBella camp. This will be another win for Berto in a boring fashion. Berto is a fraud that we need to quit tuning in to.
he ent that bad,hes still young
still a good prospect
i do find it funny that people critisize hatton for clinching a lot and 2 of his fights where he clinched most were urango and collazo, yet when berto does it nobody seems bothered,i understand why dont worry, just pointing it out
He needs to rematch Collazo and prove he is the better fighter. Hlatshwayo isn't a bad option either. He just needs to impress everyone. The fight with Urango was like getting teeth pulled. He holds way too much now. Maybe a new world class trainer could help the problem.
Agree with you man. It ain't so much the weak opposition he is facing but, dude is boring to watch. He used to be an entertaining fighter to watch but all he does is hold.
