"I think that trying to get a fight against Manny Pacquiao is great motivation to beat Mayweather," stated Juan Manuel Marquez as he shared his thoughts about his upcoming September 19 clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr. during an open workout at the Romanza Gym in Mexico City. Marquez, who has faced Pacquiao on two occassions already, has yet to earn a victory after going 24 rounds with the Filipino superstar and that fact irritates the lightweight champion. "I want to remove that thorn in my side and if the fans ask for it, I do not see why we cannot give it to them," Marquez added as he spoke with Salvador Rodriguez of record.com.mx.
Although Marquez longs for an opportunity to face Pacquiao again, he's extremely focused and ready for the task that lies ahead in Mayweather. "This is a great moment for me and for Mexican boxing and we must seize the moment. I hope the Mexican fans are on the lookout for this fight," Marquez reiterated as he completed a two-hour workout session. "I hope that Mayweather is taking me lightly as they say, because at the moment of truth, the devil will appear," he continued.
With the fight taking place at a catch-weight of 144 pounds, Marquez has worked hard to put on the extra pounds that he'll need when he steps into the ring with the naturally bigger Mayweather. "We work everything, both offensively and defensively, but as far as the speed goes, we will not have any problems and will not despair. Every day, I feel better at the weight. Before, I felt very heavy, but now, I feel better," he remarked as he showed off his noticeably bigger, but still ripped physique.
Many have already written off Marquez, who's a heavy underdog as far as the odds are concerned. If Mayweather has taken him lightly, however, the three-time world champion could prove to be a much more difficult challenge than many are giving him credit for. If the open workout was any indication, Juan Manuel Marquez will be more than just a tune-up for a guy who hasn't fought in nearly two years.
and whats up with jmm saying the devil will appear??A better translation would have been, "If Floyd takes me lightly, he's going to see the devil.":firedevil
marquez doesn't sound confident of winning this at all. i hope comes into win and not survive. its hard to question a warrior like marquez but he just does not seem to believe that he can win.
Juan makes a lot of references to the devil...
And Mayweather makes alot of references to money...the root of all evil. What JMM said is just an old saying.
Floyd is not taking you lightly, and he will KO you and brag about how he KO'd a fighter who has never fought above 135 in their life. Just like he bragged about KOing Hatton at a weight that Hatton always looked like shit at. Mayweather said that Pacman got his left-overs of Hatton, atleast Pacman fought Hatton at 140.
People always make this mistake. Hatton looked like shit at WW because he didn't have a size advantage over the weltweights he fought, because they were bigger than him he could out muscle them.
Against Floyd who is a lighter welterweight he would be better off fighting him at Welterweight because he would be stronger and more healthy not having to cut his weight so much.
_____
That being said, Mayweather is likely taking Marquez very serious and a win over him is a good name to have on your resume regardless of what people say. I don't see people complaining about Hearns' win over Duran.
see---ther you go---didn't ricky and his father claim they weren't ready for floyd back when floyd fought at 140 when ricky beat kosta and floyd beat gatti---floyd wanted to come over to the uk to fight ricky--but ricky wasn't having that---he knew what lied ahead for him fighting floyd--straight despair--and---riky came to the gatti fight--just like cotto--and thye both looked like they didn't want any part of this man---because they knew the inevitable--he would have tore them apart---he eventually did that to ricky and if cotto beats pac---cotto is in for an ass whooping too---trust and believe...
i love how everyone says that ricky and cotto were shook at the gatti fight like they didnt want it lol they put the camera on them and they were simply watching the fight you mayweather worshippers act like they were trembling in fear. hatton was so scared that he fought may above his best weight and we all know cottowill fight anyone thats put in front of him. anyway mayweather will be prepared and marquez shouldnt be thinking about those things only his own preparation

Bet on Floyd to win, I would say bet on by knockout but who knows if Floyd can knock out a naturally smaller guy. So just bet your house on Floyd winning the fight.
damn no love for Marquez homie?
