What if Marquez vs Pacquiao had a three knockdown rule, and the fight was changed from a controversial very close fight to a KO in 1 for Pacquiao?
What if Mosley vs Vernon Forrest had ended in the 2nd round, which might have happened if Steve Smoger hadnt been the referee?
name some fights that could have ended early due to technicalities or weaker stomached referees.
and have some fun, imagine how boxing would have perceived the 'loser' in each case.
for example...I seriously doubt that Marquez would have ever been the P4P #2 if there was a three knockdown rule in the fight, despite the fact that he would be the same exact fighter as he is now.
Do you think Zab would have won the kostya tszyu fight if the reff would have kept the fight going? would he still be in the position that he is in now? better or worse?
Something to really think about!
nah, I think Kostya would have caught up to him and dropped him again. likely he would have ended up with the KO either way.

vacant WBO NABO heavyweight title
All on the line.
I forgot Klits wasn't KD trice in a round. Thanks for the correction.
Imagine if all of them were in one round and there was a 3 KD rule.
Peter would've won despite only one of them really being a legit KD.
Cotto-Torres comes to mind. I remember watchin that fight thinkin 'holy shit, the prospect bout to lose to some unknown slugger.' If Cotto had been KTFO, his story woulda gone differently 4 sho. I don't think his team woulda allowed a Torres rematch if he lost that fight. His chin proved vulnerable and he may have been troubled slightly by makin 140 by then. He wouldn't of gotten an immediate title shot in his WW debut, cuz he woulda had to take a soft fight or 2 to regain confidence. And Torres woulda had a lot more shine. Hatton and Mr boat buyer were movin up, so Torres mighta been runnin shit at 140 for a lil while.
Klitschko-Peter was a non-title fight and Klitschko wasn't down 3 times in one round.

The one that stands out to me is what if the ref would of stopped Chico after the second ko. Yea it was in the late rounds, not what u are asking but just imagine
I think Wlad was only knocked down twice in one round, so the three knockdown rule wouldnt have come into play. the other knockdown came in a seperate round.
Iran Barkley vs Benn comes to mind immediately when talking about the 3 knockdown rule. I seriously doubt that fight would have been legitimately stopped in the 2nd or 3rd round had it gotten the chance to continue.
The thing is that boxing fans are so unforgiving. I think about someone like Sumbu Kalambay, who never gets any respect or recognition, despite the fact he was a very skilled fighter.
No one could look past the KO in 1 by Nunn. it is embarressing, yea, but being KOed in 1 doesnt magically make you a bum either.

This is a really good question.
Had the first fight been a KO win for Pacquiao, I think the second fight would not have happened. However, Marquez is a proud fighter and would've likely rebuilt after, and could've possibly been a top P4P guy, IMO. He just would not have been top three. Those Pac-JMM fights are bittersweet. They were two great fights, both of which could have gone either way. It's unfortunate for JMM since he did not get a decision, and IMO, will lose to Floyd, is sorta a smaller version of Tommy Hearns. Great fighter, but because of two or three fights in particular, will live in the shadows of his two greatest contemporaries.
As far as Mosley-Vernon, I believe Shane would've built himself backup. He just has that same quality as JMM
Very interesting question, Marquez with that stupid 3 KD rule would have been considered as a bum and would fight for small events. The 3 KD rule is horrible.
I can't think of how many destinies this rule(used or not) changed. Sam Peter would have been the Heavyweight champ against Wlad for example.

oddly enough, I actually think that Pacquiao's career would have been slightly hurt if Marquez got stopped in the first.
after all, most people would put Marquez as Pacquiao's #1 win(although personally I still think its Barrera). and chances are that Marquez would have never really gotten any respect or big fights after being stopped in the first.
he would have had a huge amount of momentum after the Marquez KO in 1, but would have gone on to lose to Morales, ending that momentum.
maybe Im crazy though

I've thought of that before. all these TKO's where the fighter holds up his gloves to protest, how many of em truly weren't done yet? JMM is the standard bearer for that shit. The 2 fights wit Pac he didn't win are what he's known most for actually. That's a history changer for both their careers.
Vernon-SSM? Shit, there goes the accolade of SSM never havin been KO'd. But despite losin twice, he still rebuilt himself, so not too sure how different it'd go for him.
