The hate for this man on thus board is mind blowing... Floyd gets shit for fighting the #2 p4p fighter after a two year lay-off... AFTER A TWO YEAR LAYOFF... Marquez is a brilliant dangerous fighter and this is one hell of a fight to be taking after such a long time out of the ring yet people yell "fraud"... Yet when Cotto fought Alfonzo Gomez or Michael Jennings earlier this year it was a-okay... If Floyd came back and fought Michael Jennings on PPV like Cotto did he'd be crucified... Cotto gets no critisizm for fighting Pacquiao when Cotto is bigger then Floyd and Pac is smaller then Marquez? It didn't matter who Floyd choose to fight in his comeback people will still bitch about it... If he choose Cotto people will say, "oh now he wants to fight Cotto cuz he's damaged goods what a pussy Floyd is".... If he choose Pac then they'd say, "he's scared to fight a true welterweight"... And if he fought Shane then, "he's scared to fight Pacquiao."..... Everyone on this board is FULL OF SH*T
Pac Started @ 106lbs...Marquez @ 126lbs
Mayweather started @ 130lbs & Cotto started @ 135 lbs
:haha:
cause pac started at 106, thats the reason why hes smaller than marquez? very smart reply :lol1:

i know man.... the order of crybabies on these forums are:
1) cotto stans
2) pbf stans
You damn well know he would get the same shit if he fought Quitana or Collazo... And fighting either on of them is a no no for PPV and this is a money game just as much as skill game... And this fight is with understanding that Floyd will fight the winner of Pac/Cotto or Shane Mosley next and Roger Mayweather has said this... So???
this post made no sense but I will try and pick it apart none the less
1. not really. See what you fail to add into the equation is the aspect that Floyd really calls himself the best alltime. Ok fine. So with that in mind he does fall under scrutiny that most fighters do not have. I mean Cotto does proclaim himself to be the best ever or even the p4p best like Floyd does.
2. to be honest most KNOWLEDGABLE boxing fans want to see Mayweather against a true welterweight moreso than him fighting a lightweight with an UNKNOWN track record above 135.
3. we don't know who Mayweather will fight next at all. However we did know that should Cotto beat Gomez he would indeed fight Margarito because a) it was a dual headlining card with Margarito rematching Cintron b) Bob already had a date and venue in mind.
I like how you skipped the rest of my reply

thing is that this will be pac's 3rd fight at jr ww and ww. floyd is fighting a LW instead of a decent WW...quintana, collazo, even forbes can be good opponents

Other than his quasi bigoted remarks, I still like him. I think Cotto is the MAN, but I like Mayweather too. He is arrogant, brash, a little dirty, mean spirited in the ring and talks a METRIC TONNE of trash...but he can back it up (so far). THAT'S what I like about him. He is the antithesis of what I typically like in a fighter. I like him because he is intelligent, he's a good father (or appears to be) and because he is a very gracious winner.
He DOES think too much of himself, and one day he could and likely will fall. That day will be the day of reckoning for me, when I decide how much I like Floyd. If he is gracious and does not detract from the other fighter's performance (providing there is no overt cheating) and does not bitch and moan the way hopkins has in his losses, then I will have undying respect for the man.
Oh, he's also, from what I have seen, fan friendly. Some fighters get high on themselves in a way that makes them unapproachable. Mayweather does not seem to be like that. No sports celebrity should EVER be like that. Same as cops have a job to do but should not be too condescending considering they elected that profession to protect and serve (and for the pension) they are also paid by the people they serve, the same goes for sports celebrities. They are paid by the fans that support them, and they should never ever forget that. Those that do deserve to fall and be forgotten.
Floyd on 24/7 was giving out food (probably as much a publicity stunt as a genuine show of support to the public) and did so kindly and took his time to do it. I am not putting him on the level of Manny Pacquiao who gives away millions, but he does give something back. They don't have to, but it's especially nice to see when they (sports people) do.
I admit, I was a little purturbed by his mma comments, but he could also be right. I am your garden variety 'white' person. I have moved past those comments because Floyd really is charismatic and, I believe, a genuinely decent (perhaps not good and definitely not saintly) person.
There is this too: he is young. He's living a lifestyle at 32 that most people don't even know ever. He has a lot of maturity in his handling of certain situations that people tend to overlook. Much of what he does is show. And, in honesty, I find it highly entertaining. I am barely 'middle class' and when he went 'but guess what...my shit's paid for. Is yours?', I laughed. I found that just classic.
Floyd is probably the smallest 147pder he has Never came in a fight over a 150 pounds...
What does that have to do with Marquez not being proven above 135.. and almost being stopped by Diaz before he knocked him out? Diaz... a fighter who was outclassed by Paulie. This is who Floyd wants to bring up TWO weight classes to fight.
Pac has PROVEN himself above 135 by starching Oscar into retirement at 147 and practically ending Hattons elite career at 140.
No cuz he's a great fighter that deserves another shot at the p4p crown and beating Floyd is his only chance at getting Pac in the ring again... He deserves that... And I hope he wins

:lol1:
And that's becuz he called him out, right?
No cuz he's a great fighter that deserves another shot at the p4p crown and beating Floyd is his only chance at getting Pac in the ring again... He deserves that... And I hope he wins
^^^this.. and the fact that pac wanted cotto. cotto didn't call out pac looking for an easy fight. jmm has never fought above 135.. Pbf has fought at high as 154.
Floyd is probably the smallest 147pder he has Never came in a fight over a 150 pounds...
How could you want to see Floyd fight Collazo or Quitana more then Marquez?... Marquez deserves this fight
of course he deserves it cause hes a lightweight :lol1:
this is deceptive in that JMM has largely made his claim to being one of the best p4p at 130 and below. Hell he has had only two fights above 130 and yet we expect him to hold onto the same skillset while going up above 140? a weight he has never fought at?
cmon. I agree with you the term fraud should not be thrown around on this fight BUT it goes both ways. On one hand you cannot possibly claim this to be an even match up when you simply do not know how JMM will handle being above 140 with no tune up to test this and no prior history of being larger than 140
again this is deceptive.
Cotto fought Gomez with the understanding that should he win a big summer match up with Margarito awaited. Most people here expected Cotto to wipeout Gomez and he did which made the fight a-ok as you put because it went as planned and it didn't jeopardize a much bigger fight down the road.
the Jennings fight was ok to me for several reasons
1. it was Cotto's first fight back from a devastating defeat NOT a retirement. That can weigh on a fighter so coming back against a guy of his level was okay for me
2. it was an independant PPV meaning that HBO or Showtime wasn't trying to shill this to us as if it were a big deal. It wasn't. He fought a guy who was no threat to him to get some of his confidence back and I am fine with that
3. Cotto fought Clottey immediately after. A top welterweight for years, Clottey is no slouch to have on your dockett
not necessarily I think quite a few people here made cases for him fighting a Collazo or Quintana type as his first fight back and being ok with it because
1. it was a full fledged welterweight
2. both are pretty good fighters
Manny isn't smaller than JMM nowadays stop using the "well he started at 106" theory. LOOK at both fighters and you will see Manny is CLEARLY the larger fighter now.
lets put it this way
Manny seems to fit 140 his frame looks like it always does just a bit mroe fileld
JMM we have no clue and from the pics he looks like he might have bulked up too much.
to me I think no matter what people say about Floyd in a positive manner the nuthuggers will say its not enough. I think some of you guys whine more about the whining than the whiners to be honest
sorry but Mayweather made the claim that he is the GOAT did he not? if so then he does fall under scrutiny that most fighters don't
um I know you jock Mayweather hard but didn't Manny take the same kind of shit for making Cotto accept all the stipulations thrown his way? see its part of being the top dog you as a fan of his should relish in that rather than cry about it
I mean shit Mayweather himself dont give a fuck why should you?
nah I only see one so far
