Berto tuns down $750,000 for a unficiation bout against Hlatshwayo

I'm speaking my honest opinion. Seriously, don't you criticize Calzaghe for fighting out of their prime dudes in Hopkins & Jones but praise Williams for doing it to Winky and Phillips?? To me Williams just looks for the easiest way possible and if no one complies he cries that no one wants to fight him. Anyways I'm done with this....its for another thread. Phillips and Wright are better opponents than Gomez, Jennings, Lockett, and Rubio. And I think even that version of Winky Wright would beat Margarito and Cotto even though I can't stand Winky's style and he is bigger than those two guys are. Williams gets props from me for beating Winky.

I see 2 reasons why Berto turned it down. 1. Maybe he was hoping to get the Mosley fight by the end of the year because the Pavlik-Williams fight is still in the air and if that fight doesn't happen it frees up money from HBO which means he'll get a bigger payday. 2. He has become a little disillusioned about how much he's worth because of how much HBO has been paying him in his fights against lesser level of opposition.

This was on Rafael's blog today. I don't know if this was $750,000 for the bout or just for Berto. So I guess HBO feels there overpaying Berto now and won't give him the big money, like he is trying to get he should take the money because he looked like a girl in his last fight then when he fights mosley or clottey or a welterweight for his next fight he can demand a better purse and he can become a bigger name.

HBO put up 750K for the fight.....Berto's been making 750K himself for his past few fights. He aint gonna go backwards.

Maybe he wants to keep his options open for other fights/offers.

Or a lesser opponent, Mosley destroys Berto and stops him even now. Mosley is probably as fast as Berto now and Mosley isn't even in his prime now, and he definitely has the better skill-sets. Shane is definitely NOT as fast as berto. But shane is big, physically very strong, can crack, and has an chin of steel. Berto is cashing out if he fights shane because shane will whoop the shyt out of berto.

I think it's $750,000 for the whole fight. If it's that much for him alone, then he should have taken it.
