Freddie Roach doesn’t want Manny Pacquiao to have the illusion that Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto is just going to roll over and die on November 14.
While most ringsiders see Cotto as being slow-footed and easy-to-hit, Roach sees something that makes him truly a livewire opponent.
Roach said people may have forgotten that Cotto holds a huge win over one of boxing’s toughest and trickiest fighters in Shane Mosley, who, like Pacquiao is quick on his feet and punches in bunches.
“Cotto beat Mosley,” said Roach, sounding a bit puzzled over claims being peddled that Pacquiao would have an easy time disposing of Cotto when they square off at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Cotto bested Mosley when they fought in November 2007.
“This is going to be Manny’s toughest fight,” said Roach, who wants to set up training camp in Toluca, Mexico, to ensure that Pacquiao stays focused in the runup to Cotto.
The fight will be at 145 lbs and Cotto’s coveted World Boxing Organization welterweight crown will be on the line.
Despite an apparent slide in Cotto’s performance the past year, Roach remains a believer that Cotto still has a lot of championship juice left in his tank.
Cotto has started training in Puerto Rico under the strict supervision of head trainer Joe Santiago and strength coach Phil Landman.
Pacquiao hasn’t started his as the Filipino is still busy fulfilling all his showbiz commitments and is scheduled to report to the gym in mid-September which will officially kick off his eight-week training camp.
Cotto
I WOULD SAY COTTO IS GONNA TAKE IT BY K.O.. WATCH AND SEE... PAC WONT TAKE TO MANNY BODY SHOTS FROM COTTO AND DEF NOT TOO MANY WELTERWEIGHT PUNCHES TO THE HEAD.... GOODNIGHT PACMAN.. LIGHTS OUT.
:boxing:
MAYWEATHER IS THE GREATEST EVER
Pacquiao can KO anyone with that shot he hit Hatton with!!!!
Like the person above said, if Cotto can take Manny's punches, then it's a wrap.
I just hope Manny doesn't get hit then put his hands up in the air like he has a tendency to do...That's the only thing that ever bothered me about him.
thats what i think is the key to the fight i think cotto is going to walk thru pacmans punches and it's a wrap once cotto def. knows he can take manny punch it's going to BE PAIN in the ring
yea.. i think cotto can take some of manny's punches.. i emphisize SOME!! cause if he hit cotto with the shot he killed hatton with i truly think its lights out for cotto.. but i am glad Roach finally realizes that he cant keep shit talking because it just adds more fuel to miguels large burning fire.. hes already pissed that no one is giving him a chance.. and for Roach to talk shit just makes it keep burning..
Maybe reality is sinkin in that Pac is a lil guy movin up and Cotto ain't no joke. Roach is right to show Cotto a lil more respect.

cotto will surprise all...........
he won't suprise me because i think cotto will win by stoppage. Cotto is a elite fighter in his prime and to be honest pacquiao hasn't beaten an elite fighter in his prime in a while lets me honest people.
Is Freddie Bi Polar? Just recently he said THEY will expose Cotto and now he is a tough nut to crack?
No. He's confident in exposing Cotto if Manny does his part in maintaining his form--he never said it would be an easy fight, little grasshopper.
Roach doesn't sound 2 confident anymore, I wonder why? I think he just pick on the wrong guy this time and he just realize that Miguel is alot better that what he tough. I don't see him making any sound predictions yet, wonder why? LMFAO
War Miguel..
You Know what he was confident until he started watching and studying the Cotto fight tapes. I know this fight is in his head !

remember, Pac selected Cotto, not Roach.
Im just glad roach is being honest.
It would have been real easy to sit up there and talk about all of cotto's flaws instead of his accomplishments and from the sounds of it thats how pacman is taking it.
I've said since the IDEA of this fight being brought up that it was going to be a very tough fight for both guys. I will even go out on a limb and say its probably THEE toughest fight of BOTH of their careers.
I know many will point out margarito and some of pacman's tough fights against mexican warriors but this is entirely different if you ask me. This pretty much determines the best between 140-147 in the WORLD!
I know many are thinking, "what about mosley?" and granted hes a hall of famer no question but im talking CURRENTLY and while he was extremely impressive winning over margarito; cotto beat mosley. and pacman is viewed as top fighter as well...so i really think this fight will come down to all the parts needed for a thiller:
whats on the line?
A) Money. this should sell VERY well given the popularity and the exciting style both fighters bring to the table.
B) The Belt. Its for the WBO WW championship. status is there.
C) P4p rankings. whoever wins will either be the top p4p fighter or at the least within the top 5.
D) Status. This fight will end up deciding many things in these couple of weight classes and the winner will have press and fighters lined up around the block wanting to get a shot at them (either for questions...or for a title shot).
In my opinion this fight is bigger than floyd v. marquez. only way it (pacman v. cotto) gets outshadowed is if marquez does something stellar like knocks out floyd; etc.
a floyd win and it will all be forgotten come november.
thats speaks volumes of the importance of this fight.
so this is no walk in the park for either fighter and i'd really lose appreciation for whoever comes into this fight expecting an easy ride.
Well said! Good post, Where will you put Miguel on the P4P list if he gets the victory since we know Manny will keep his spot if he wins taking in cosideratios all the inactive boxers on the latest P4P list?
:wtf1:
roach always give opponents their due credit. dont get too excited :lol1:
I agree with you on that he does give credit to good fighters like Miguel, but just the other day he was talking about how they are going to expose Cotto and now it seems to me that the guy don't even has a plan on how to defeat him yet, and about getting exited dosen't everyone is? this is going to be a great fight, I love the sport I like Cotto and I'm confident that he will win, that's my opinion. BTW how do you see the end of this fight? just curious..

not even the punisher would look good vs clottey, clottey would outbox paul. paul knows this thats why he avoided clottey.
Listen, just because Clottey gave Cotto a rough fight, doesn't mean there is room to talk nonsence,my dude!!Winky is better than Clottey with a better workrate & he was utterly overwhelmed with activity,so please, how can Clottey who doesn't throw enough do better?!If u don't like the Punisher that's fine, but no need to be foolish about it!!The Punisher is no Cotto!!:boxing:
It's not that he isn't confident,it's just not reality to think that Pacman destroys Cotto, the Pacmania has gone off the deep end!!As far as declining performance,I would love for someone to name me any fighter outside of the Punisher, who can look spectacular against Clottey, because there is no welterweight active right now that can!!Pacman is a great fighter, but just because of that is fans shouldn't forget that Cotto is as well!!:boxing:
