I dont beleive all this Floyd in the gym stuff. He wasnt in the gym like people are saying. No way Floyd would go to the gym a ton but wouldnt come back to fight. Sure, he's an athelete so he's not going to go completely cold turkey and stop working out but I bet he only went to the gym like once a week or once every 2 weeks, if that. I bet he also rarely did any boxing stuff unless it was just messing around every once in awhile. He was not full time staying in shape like others say or he wouldve been came back or never retired.
I think once you retire that long then you have to lose something, espicaly when you add in his age. The question is how long does it take to get it back, if it comes back at all. The other question is while he may have lost some things, what could he have gain? Maybe his body is more fresher than it ever has been. Maybe he also gained weight which will allow him to finally be bigger at WW than he has been before. The truth is we dont know about any of it and we just have to wait & see
it surely isnt a disgrace one bit for floyd to be compared to SRL...even my step father said that he feels floyd is better than SRL.
and my step father is a huge SRR, SRL, whitaker etc fan
I'm a Floyd fan but he ain't better than SRL and i doubt he ever will be as great as SRL
The only one on that list he could catch is Whitaker and Floyd has to add 3 or 4 good champions to reach that level
it will it affect him first few rounds.. but i got the feeling the one that will be thrown off the most will be marquez cuz of the weight nd i beleive heel be slower then ever. so heel make floyd look even better i could be wrong tho.. marquez could distrupt floyd with his skills.. as fast nd all as floyd is
Not at all. For all JMM's skills n heart, he's too fuckin small for the layoff to make a big difference. Mr boat buyer ain't been sittin around gettin fat on sabbatical. He stayed in good shape and is still in his athletic prime.
leonard was a drunkard and coke addict
and floyds a gun totin killer from a family of drunkards and coke addicts, your point? Besindes you dont know what floyd does on his spare time.
even sugar ray leonard was noticably affected by his lay off...come on guys may aint a god, even if the dude was training thats hardly being in the ring getting hit and dodging punches coming from a guy that wants to take your head off. right?
i heard someone say (on NSB) that floyd took time off to let his body fully heal. i don't know if that's true or not but he could come back stronger in some ways if that's the case. sure, floyd's older. that could affect his stamina and reflexes. his timing won't be affected too much probably if he's been training this whole time and working on his skills
If he took the time to let his body heal and rest, it just means he won't be as fragile and he'll feel better.
His timing will be thrown off. Watch Mosley-Mayorga, Shane's timing was all thrown off against a wide opponent that was open for counters. If Floyd tries to sit back and counter, you'll see it, if he tries to lead and be offensive, not as much.
i heard some dude say (on NSB) that floyd never stopped training during his vacation. i don't know if that's true or not. but if any boxer can come back sharper than ever after an 18 month vacation it's floyd. he's always been very dedicated. you can tell his physique hasn't changed he still has that tight little body
Pause
A year and a half layoff affects any and every boxer. Gym work can't match the intensity and other things that go into a high level professional prize fight. It'll throw off Floyd's timing and his stamina won't be as good as it had been either.
I'm sure he did not let himself go, as far as a fitness aspect. The guy has been a gym rat all of his life.
But I truly do believe that he took a very long stint away from any type of boxing ring, and he's admitted to this himself in a few interviews I've seen him do.
I'm just curious to see how a fighter, even as great a fighter as Floyd is, will react when stepping back into the ring after such a long layoff.
I'm curious to see if his timing will still be there. I wonder if his reflexes will be as sharp and quick as they were.
I do understand that he has literally been doing this his entire life, and at one point, it became second nature to him. But he is human after all and that is what I think is intriguing about this fight and the fact that though he is much smaller, Marquez is a really clever fighter who can adjust to any situation.
For most fighters it would effect them. Not great fighters, and a great fighter floyd is. Expect the same old floyd in september & expect a mid to late round stoppage.
