This is from a couple weeks ago (Aug 8) at a huge sports training complex in Little Rock of which he is part owner, right before he went to Houston to start his training camp. He says he is specifically focusing on his legs in order to carry his energy through to the later rounds.
Apparently he was working with a nutritionist before he left for Houston, which is obvious to me if you just look at his face and compare it to how he looked just two or three weeks earlier during the Super Six press tour. On the tour his face was a little chubby and he had the beginnings of a gut; here his face looks much leaner.
Obviously you can't take any press out of a training camp too seriously, but this at least gives me a little hope that he trying to improve his regimen to address his glaring faults. Will it be enough? I'll believe it when he's got his hands raised.
I also believe Taylor will beat Abraham.Everyone keeps focusing only on Arthur's power and comparing him to Pavlik and Froch. The difference is,Abraham fights sporadic so he wont keep a pace that Pavlik gave Jermain. Jermain needs to pace himself like the 2nd Pavlik fight so he doesn't gas out. Everyone also keeps forgetting that this is Abraham's first fight at a higher weight class,so we don't know how he will fight-he could be more lethargic as far as anyone knows- Remember,Pavlik didn't seem as energetic once he put on some weight.I also think Jermain can benefit from using his good height advantage.Even if Taylor slows down his own workrate, its going to be more than Arthur's.I do believe the fight is in Germany though-which concerns me for a fair match...
I stand behind Jermain through thick and thin... Hoping he does much better..
In my opinion, just a tweak in training, a few change ups, can make all the difference in the world with him.
I'm a huge fan of Jermain, and I always will be. It's good to see that's he's working on some new shit. You can tell he's determined. I really hope it works out. He's looking good, that's for sure.
I don't think it matters what he does in training..he just needs to learn how to relax in the ring. The more tense you are the more tired you get later on.
He looked good doing what? Jumping up and down? I see yuppies doing that before they go for a jog.
What everyone means is, he looked a lot leaner than he did just 3 weeks earlier when he got pulled off a fishing boat and wisked away on European tour complete with photoshoots of his double chin and beer gut.
To me he looks leaner than he has in two years, and this was BEFORE his training camp started.
the more i see this kid, the more i am a fan. i don't care about a fighter who loses. it is not the end of the world. this kid has alot of heart, and i hope he beats the unfounded hype off abraham.
I am and will always be a fan of Jermain's but he can do all that nutrion bizness and experimental exercises if he wants...if he aint doing his roadwork it'll hurt him...
And he doesn't know how to handle pressure fighters...when Winky backed him into the ropes he had nothing. Spinks and Ouma couldn't do that.
Center of the ring he's good but other areas he gets into trouble...
Thanks for posting.
Jermain looks the best I've seen him in a long time. He's gonna be a real problem for Abraham.
I agree. Abraham will have his toughest fight since the first Miranda fight; hopefully tougher.
Abraham BTW is also in a hard training working out at Sauerlands gym in Berlin.
That's always the flipside; the other guy is training his ass off too.
jermain imo needs to work on his strength, imo hes a small SMW. vs froch i think he weighed in at 166 and even then he looked slightly chubby and didn't look as dried out as he did during his MW days. remember the lacy weigh in? apparently it was done in a wardrobe so that people couldn't see him.
this leads me to ask if hes a naturally athletic guy, whos relatively small at the weight and he doesn't have to kill himself to make the weight - why does he gas?
anyways like i said i think hes a small SMW and he needed to let his body grow into the 12st frame before challenging for the title imo. some strength work wouldn't go unnoticed either so i can wasn't surprised to hear g.foreman was involved. what concerns me is that if he does put a little bit of extra muscle on will that extra weight cause him to gas even earlier?
I agree with this, except the the weigh in was done in a closet because they were on the Vanderbilt campus and the pre-fight press conference was in a classroom. It doesn't make sense that he would try to hide himself if he's going to be shirtless in the ring the very next night, does it?
Anyway, the rest of your points are valid and I've been echoing them since the Lacy fight. I think Taylor used the move to 168 as an excuse to drop less weight and eat whatever he wanted in camp, without taking it upon himself to add the extra muscle he will need to be highly competitive as a SMW.
Hopefully Big George helps him put on a few pounds of solid muscle. If Jermain had better punching power, it wouldn't matter that he could only go 6 or 7 rounds because most of his recent fights would've been over before the 5th.

I honestly think that he has a big chance of winning this fight. If he can last those last few rounds well then I think he will win this.
I agree.
An Abraham KO wouldn't surprise me though.
Jeez, I sould exactly like I did before the Froch fight; "Taylor will outbox him early, but a late KO by Froch isn't out of the question."
He'll still be tight as fuck in the ring and even though his chin is straight when it comes to taking one shot, but his punch resistance is not up to par. I give JT a slim chance of winning, but it's not out of the question.
Abraham is the opposite though, he's lax as fuck in the ring, and turns it up whenever he feels like it. Abraham KO 10.
