I am back from the fight and it was amazing. The atmosphere was like no other. Us Juan Diaz fans are the best right now in boxing if you consider Hatton and his fans retired. Hearing the crowd on TV did not do justice. We were much louder than that i thought. And every single punch Juan Landed the roof nerly exploded from the arena. Unless he fights Marquez there again, Diaz will always have a huge advantage with his fans here in Houston. Paulie got an hear full of boos from when he entered the ring until after when he was being a huge d-bag. The boos loud i couldnt understand what he was saying on the speakers.
Now for the fight. I believe the cut early on with Juan Diaz affected him and prevented him from getting into a rhythm. Paulie's speed and movement made it almost impossible for him to settle down. If you look at Diaz recent fights you saw how well he starts out every fight.
Anyways I feel it was a very close fight and could have gone either way. Juan Diaz landed the harder and more telling blows than Paulie. Paulie landed ping ping ping and boxed circles in the rounds he won. Diaz was snapping his head back with just about every punch he landed. He was even hurt and wobbled a few times.
Also imo if you are going to beat Juan Diaz in front of a crowd like that i think you need to do a lot more than what Paulie did. The crowd's reaction to everything really helped to sway judges. From what i saw Juan was getting hit but by nothing major or he would block them.
Lastly there were 3 scuffles in the crowd and 1 fight that looked pretty huge. One scuffle took place 4 rows in front of me in round 8 of the Guerrero fight i believe. I was sent txts of how on tv you could see the crowd looking away. In the major fight that was like 6 sections to the right of me the 2 guys were falling down rows fighting each other and one of them got stabbed. I am not sure if it was just 2 guys fighting it could have been more.
Anyways i hope this gets a lot of responses i really had an awesome time last night
why not..we sold out the 1st 2 fights...packed down this fight..we're averaging the same attendance as the vegas and ny crowds...have better judges i say..
Yes, you have the best judges in the country.
I think it was a close call but like allways the Mexican never gets no credit for bodyshots, Diaz was hitting that body over and over I cant see how Malignagi can win the fight with just jabs and running.
You are 100 percent correct. Those body shots made Paulie run even faster

Excellent post. The announcers were totally biased towards their fellow New Yorker. I'm from NYC and I can't stand Paulie's road runner style. Diaz won the fight
Houston should never be permitted to hold professional boxing events ever...
Last night was yet another black eye for the sport.
Damn those Texans. :grumpy:
Hey thanks for the compliment bro... I was cool to meet someone that I talk so much boxing with.... I think you nailed it right on the head with your assessment of the fight....
Paulie did move, and jab alot.... But Juan came forward, had him staggered on more than a few occasions, and the crowd was going crazy..... And I think that did sway the judges a bit...
As far as 118-110, I think that was a bit wide.... I had it 8-4 or 7-5 Diaz....
Diaz never had him staggered, if you watch it on tv its quite clear that every time he "wobbled" he was doing so to mock Diaz, or was off balance. Diaz never had Paulie even close to being hurt in the fight.
come on texan you cant honestly tell me you think diaz won that fight?
im unsure of where you were sitting but for me (watching it on tv) i can say the crowd was misleading everyone because they would cheer wildly even when paulie would block or slip juan's punches. i was thinking, "wtf are they cheering for?".
So i do believe that may have swayed the judges but i still cant see any reason why juan would be given such favorable (to say the least) scores of 116-112 and 118-110.
The judge who scored it 118-110 shouldnt be allowed to score fights anymore in my opinion. that was the clear workings of a robbery. and even the judge who called it 116-112 is questionable in my opinion as well.
i dont see who anyone could have had it more than 2 points for either fighter. any cards that give more than 2 points to either is unfair if you ask me.
Paulie really put on a great performance. and i dont see how you can say all of paulie shots were "ping ping ping" when he opened that huge cut above juan's eye.
i wont take a thing away from diaz though. i like how he fights, he gives the fans exactly what they paid for everytime so i can see why houston loves him, hell i even enjoy watching him.
but whats fair is fair and those judges were NOT fair.
Nate Campbell beat Juan Diaz much more clearly than Paulie and that is coming from a guy who dosent particularly like him. In that fight i had no doubt Campbell won and il admit there was no way Juan Diaz won that fight.
Also i think everyone should watch this fight without the anti juan diaz commentary by Max Kellerman and Howard Lederman.
I didn't really find the commentating to be "anti juan" or anything like that. Imo I thought it was a close fight. I had paulie winning though. I also thought the bad score cards is making this bigger than it should be.
But I have to add and argue since you mentioned the psychological effect of the hbo commentating. If one were to Watch it live there in Texas (especially being a Diaz fan) Some if not most ppl in the audience are going to be prone to "crowd mentality", especially after a couple drinks. Emotions and expectations are so high in the building that its hard not to get caught up.
Im not pointing fingers, just generalizing the idea.
Its like being in a live riot or looting...u know what your doing aint right...but shit .. what the hell...it feels right at the time.
You come into Houston you gotta earn respect. Look at Juan Manuel Marquez. He kod Diaz and not one person booed him. He was a class act who went in and actually showed how to box while winning the rounds.
He outboxed Diaz, and made him look silly at times. If that doesn't get you respect, I don't know what does. It's the same state that had Whitaker vs Chavez a draw, what can I say, they were also booing Whitaker as he put on a boxing clinic.
It's not that they were just booing in a good fight, they started booing in the first round and kept it up until the post fight interviews.
