The main problem with the negotiations between Hopkins vs Jones Jnr is the purse split. Jones says 60% to the winner and 40% to the loser. But Hopkins is after 60% for himself to begin with, leaving Roy with only a 40% share. However, Hopkins makes an interesting point which I think Roy Jones Jnr should consider. At this particular point in time, Hopkins is generally considered the better fighter.
Most people have Hopkins in their current p4p list, but most don't rate Roy Jones Jnr as a current p4p any longer. It's true that Roy Jones did beat Hopkins and for that reason he probably feels he deserves the lions share, so to offer a 60 winner/40 loser deal is already a big compromise on his part. But is that a fair way of evaluating the current deal? Isn't it better to accept that Hopkins is considered the better fighter today?
For the sake of this fight happening, thinking about the current status of each fighter, I think Roy should accept the 40/60 deal. On a side note, if Roy won, Hopkins might ask for a rematch and accept a 40% share next time. It could happen if the 2nd fight sells well enough. What do you think?
I really don't want to pay to see 'roid' jones vs the most boring fighter in the world ever.
Nobody gives a shit.
Apparently you didnt see Roys HW title win then.
thats a bit of a loaded ?
after negotiating Im sure it would be more like 45- 55 and Jones would be keeping most of his purse as opposed to Hopkins. This is a no brainer for both of these guys and I am surprised that neither of them are saying that.
Here is how i Look at it. Back in 02 when they had the infamous arguement, Bernard was lower on the p4p list then roy. Roy Was the top dog in all of boxing and bernard didn't want 40 to 60. So now that bernard is higher then roy then I dont think its wrong for roy not to want the 40. I feel 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser is perfect but bernard doesnt trust money going in the hand of the judges. And all this bring up people who beat roy and people who beat bernard is useless because bernard flat out destroyed pavlik but lost twice to the man pavlik destroyed. So it shows on ne day a fighter could lose.
I will say yes these past 3 to 4 years roy has beaten bums but bernard has what beat a blown up 170 pavlik that shouldnt of been there, a blown up 170 winky that defit shouldnt have been there, a dropping over 30 lbs tarver who was dead and a L to calzaghe, So both of them should do a 50-50 or 60 40 to the winner and move on with it.
Why should Hopkins retire bat? He still fights at a top level and WINS. It isn't as if he is losing to the Glenn Johnsons and Tarvers of boxing.
No reason for bernard to retire at all, he just seems to get better with age.. he lost a SD to calzaghe no shame in that, and put an ass beating on Pavlik who was getting all kinds of praise on this board before.. bernard can still hang with the big boys and beat them to.
Both should just retire. They both have a win to finish their career with. So retire and make room for the next generation.

60% to the winner and 40% is a great deal, lot's of deals should be done like this.. I don't see the reason why you wouldn't take the deal unless you weren't confident in winning..
Bernard has always been consistent on this 60 to himself which shows he doesn't have much confidence on winning or he just doesn't want to fight Roy again.
I honestly think the same goes for BHOP, I don't know why but even a past prime Roy sells well...
Hopkins can make 5 million fighting Adamek, Dawson, or Williams. Jones made peanuts for his lastr two fights, and the most Green would bring is probably a million, maybe.
Hopkins is still relevant as a boxing elite and is number 3 P4P. Jones hasn't beat an elite fighter in a long time, which means he can not. He would be the underdog and would have something to gain, whereas Hopkins would not gain anything P4P wise or division wise by beating Roy Jones. 60-40 is a generous offer, fukk this 60-40 winner loser thing, it has never been done before, probably because it isn't feasible.
Yes he should, its more money still than he would make anywhere else. They will never fight.

I do not care what these old past prime american hypejobs get. One only fought smaller men the other one ducked everyfighter until he got KO twice.
Idiot... :nonono:
Stop hating on them just cause they are American and aren't European and give them props... they are very talented fighters especially in there prime.
60 to the winner 40 to the loser... I can't see what's wrong with it. I wouldn't say all to the winner and 0 to the loser cause they have certain sponsors and training camps to pay and shit. Plus they still need to get a little for all that preparation.
