Mayweather is obviously the most talked about boxers in the last several years.
Apart from his skills, do you think his persona helps with that? Playing the bad guy... He gets the attention from both "haters" and fans. But does he have much fans? He mainly attracts wannabe gangstaz like larrysmith...
Do you think Mayweather would be more popular and have more fans if he didn't act like a retard?
PS: May I also add that I don't ever root for fighters. (meaning that I'm not a fan of any boxer, I'm a fan of boxing) I always want the best man to win. I also think Floyd's skills are amazing.
When Floyd is on cameras he doesn't care, he acts like an asshole = $$$ for him.
it's a smart promotional tactic.
but when he's not in the public eye he's a laid back guy.
No, i dont care if som1 is humble or not, i mean i would prefer if he was, but fact is, if he was cocky + took on the best of the best like mosley etc...or faught them before, at least hes backing it up!! But he dont, he jst chats shit..if ur gna claim to be the best n not fight the top dogs (i hope he fights mosley, cotto or som1, even pac in the next few years) then whts the point of being so cocky..and he chats so much shite....contradicts himself constantly..
Something I've been wondering:
Most people say PBF needs his bad guy persona to attract casual fans.
But do casual fans even follow all the action outside the ring?
F.uck no, Floyd is just a braggart and a racist mofo.
Nobody believes what he says, of course except for the floydstans and larryx the self-proclaimed godfather. :D
i think it does attracted other fans. Just like with going on the whole WWE and dancing with the stars programs. He is doing whatever he needs to do to get his name out there. He doesn't have a promoter cause he does such a good job of promoting himself. He is a boxer/business man and people just hate it. they rather have the boxer at the end of the fight say. "ill fight anyone but its up to my promoter who is next." it's funny cause no matter how he spends his money he is one self promoted fight away from being good again. As far as im concerned i LOVE what mayweather does. There are too many people who have their hand in the pot who don't even get in the damn ring. he has cut all those people out AND even keeps the trainer money in the family. whether you like him as a person or as a fighter you have GOT to respect his hustle.

floyd isnt popular? thats plain dumb
you misunderstood his post... he meant that Mayweather IS popular but not for the following reasons blah blah blah
thats the point of his post fool...hes saying b/c there are too many double standards in boxing.
hell..look at FLoyd fighting a bigger, better, healthy version of DLH and taking DLH's belt but Pac fiights a weight drained DLH
Floyd fought a better, unbeaten, confident hatton and KO's hatton first but Pac fights him how much later and after a less than good performance against Malin. but look at how they view pac.
its all about double standards
Yadda Yadda Yadda
Floyd is not popular for obvious reasons............abrasive, and here is the important part......abrasive/cocky whilst not fighting the best available, defensive style.
You would rather believe he is being wronged because he is black because it somehow excuses the fact that the criticism of him has validity.
Idiot!!
he will be more popular if he fights better opponents and back up what he says he is
I was going to say almost the exact same thing. It's too late to play the "i'm humble now" card. He has to earn back the respect of his fans with action. It's not that he's not popular, ve's very popular, that's not the problem.
The poster I quoted said it all. Then he will be more liked and respected, if he can refarian from bragging. An ALi, he ain't. And anyway a lot of people didn't even like Ali's mouthing off, though he was so witty at it.
If you are black, dominant and haven't lost to a white guy if at all, you will be hated on. Everyone knows this.
Pretty much every (dominant) black fighter that didn't act like a douchebag was loved. Joe Louis for example.
Why don't you name me some dominant black fighters that acted nice and were hated...
I can also give you a fun counterexample btw. The Klitchko brothers act nice, are dominant, are white, and are strongly hated on NSB.
But that's why also why so many black fighters excel and become ATG fighters, they are always forced to keep proving themselves no matter the age and condition they are in. That's why we don't have any black Sven Otkes, Joe Calzaghes or Rocky Marcianos, too.
All the 3 fighters you mentioned are quite hated in NSB...
"Thread: Would MAYWEATHER be more popular if he was HUMBLE?"
no. he'd be more popular if he was more aggressive and fought better competition. it also might help if in his 'most anticipated' comeback, he fought jmm at 140 so that i wouldn't have to keep defending jmm's next fight.
I don't doubt that Floyd would be appreciated more if he had the demeanor of 'good guys' like Oscar or Shane, but who else in boxing has his unique persona and can back it up with confidence in the ring?
Not too many.
Many just don't appreciate that he's been able to mix boxing with a flashy swagger and be successful at it.
But to be fair, he did bring the criticism on himself by the way he chose to be portrayed before his fight with Oscar and his reaction to certain questions by interviewers whom he feels are out to make him look bad or appear ignorant.
In the end he probably has accepted the burden he must carry for being
not so 'humble'.
See double standards anyone?
The only double standards i see is a racist slag like yourself complaining about other racist slags, oh yeah, whilst not haing the balls to say it in your original account.
Coward!
And most people know i don't have any other accounts. I don't belong to any groups here and have rejected all "friend" requests black yellow brown or white. Anyway your reply to my post comes to show what i was pointing out. Everyone knows it, no one talks about it.... Well up until recently. :loser:

I would hardly have the time for a double account. And red is my favorite color too. So i'm ok. BTW i'm no racist.
someone posted a video of Mayweather's post interviews after his fights. you could see in the beggining him respectfully asking for fights with anyone, thanking the fans, and just trying to be as humble as possible. As you move to his later fights you can see him becoming frustrated in the interviews almost angry with even his own promoter. His attitude is def not the real him. but in boxing having everyone want to see you get beat will sell more tickets than if everyone wanting to see you win. he knows his style isn't going to draw in the casual fan so he uses this persona to do it. He got tired of playing the side and took a risk and now its paying off.
See my take on it page 3 and you will know what happened. Mayweather learned from the feedback he got how to make the most money out of it.
Short answer no. Why? Well no black fighter will ever be popular if they are this good in the ring. Ask MMA's p4p best fighter in the world, Anderson Silva. He goes up in weight to KTFO the former champion with a freaking jab while going back, some people still boo him and vmost people want to see him lose so badly they are trying to get him to heavyweight LOL. Anderson is as humble as one can be, he bows to a booing crowed 1000x times and if he happens to not KO someone he's compelled to say he's sorry and will try harder next time. GSP, a white canadian who happens to also be very good, has cleared his division and the logical step would be for him to step up in weight and challenge Silva like Silva and BJ Penn done before him. No, people (and when i say people i mean most of the media too, it's the freaking society) say GSP "should stay at his weight class and continue to kick ass". See double standards anyone? But as it's also so typical these people will never say what everyone already knows (it smells), they rather say something like "he's cocky" or some other BS like that. In boxing it's the same thing. If you are black, dominant and haven't lost to a white guy if at all, you will be hated on. Everyone knows this.
But that's why also why so many black fighters excel and become ATG fighters, they are always forced to keep proving themselves no matter the age and condition they are in. That's why we don't have any black Sven Otkes, Joe Calzaghes or Rocky Marcianos, too.

No and the reason why..............too much water under the Bridge.
