Bernard hasnt fought in a year... by January he ll be off by 15 months... going STRAIGHT into a fight at 45 years old with Dawson or Adamek.
Sounds like you could just use ROy as a big money tune up.
People that say Roy doesnt deserve 60-40.
My question is... why is Bernard, and you so concerned with what the loser gets?
Why is he worried about 40%?
He's not going to get 40% right, right?
Because Roy is a shell... Right? Thats what Bernard said? Roy is a SHELL and hasnt done ANYTHING. And Bernard is a MASTER craftsman, and has OCEANS more gas in the tank than Roy... So it sounds like you're going to get your 60% Bernard... sounds like EASY work to me.
I mean you SCHOOLED Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver, who both knocked Roy into time travel.
You should be able to collect a 10 million dollar paycheck in between naps... matter of fact you dont even need to train for this fight Bernard... Roy is so far gone, it would take literally nothing for you to show up and collect your 60% win, grab a good 8-10 million... and move on with your illustrous legacy.
Sounds like a GREAT fight to take near the tail end of your career... and you get to take Roys proposal and beat him with it.
And ALSO a great fight to get a TUNEUP for Dawson or Adamek.
Matter of fact, Roy said the winner can take 100% of everything... you hear that Bernard? You get to show up, smack around your little cousin.. and take home 100% profit (minus promotion costs) of a Jones-Hopkins LEGENDS rematch.
Oh, and you also can pick the judges, the ring, the gloves, and the venue... just in case that wasn't a sweet enough deal.
I don't think Hopkins is "scared" of Roy, but I do believe he thinks there's a huge chance that he will lose to him again. Styles make fights, and I just don't see how the version of Roy that fought Lacy (the one that actually throws punches) can lose to Hopkins. Hopkins has trouble with fighters with speed as he is a more control the tempo, laid back fighter, especially if that speed comes with any kind of power behind it. Just see the Taylor fights- about the only guy with speed and decent power he's fought lately and lost both of them, and we've seen how "great" a fighter Taylor turned out to be. Now, if the non-punching version of Jones that appeared in the Johnson, 3rd Tarver and Calzaghe fights appear, Hopkins beats him up no doubt.
My feeling is that the only way Hopkins can beat Jones is if he lands one big shot and KOs him but when's the last time Hopkins has KOed someone with one punch? A fat De La Hoya? And that was with a body shot. He beat the hell out of Pavlik, but if I recall, Pavlik never went down. As we saw from the Taylor fights, it doesn't take a lot to knock him down; keep him down, maybe, but not knock him down.
So I just don't see Hopkins out-working Jones and/or KOing him with one punch. Even in rounds that Hopkins may have a higher punch total, Jones is so much flashier than Hopkins that Jones would probably steal some. But this is my opinion and is strictly based on Roy Jones letting his hands go.
On another note, for people saying "Why should Hopkins fight Roy, what does Roy have to offer": Well, aside from the $$ it would generate, whatever happened to just wanting to beat the guy that beat you? You would think that a guy who talks about another man being "scared to stand up to someone" would be the first to say, "listen, Roy, I'm a better fighter than you now and you beat me when I was just coming up, so I'm going to accept 60-winner and 40-loser just so I can kick your ass." I'm tired of all this "well, I beat Jim, who beat Joe, who beat you so I'm better" bullshit. In football, if my team loses to team A, but I beat team B who beat team A, I don't talk trash to team A fans because they'd say "so what, we beat you." Say what you want about Roy, but he has the W over Hopkins in a fight that wasn't really that close to even warrant a rematch until many years later.
As entertaining as this radio show was, sadly, we'll more-than-likely never see this fight happen. I wish Hopkins had as much faith in himself that he could easily beat this shell of a Roy Jones that his fans have- if he did, this fight would be happening this year.
For the last few years I've thought that Bernard would stop Roy if they ever fought. Now I'm not so sure. That sequence at the end of the 5 th round against Lacy was something else. Yes I know it was Lacy, a semi-shot version of a mediocre fighter, but still, Roy looked good out there. I think the key for him is having fun out there, not sure fighting Bernard will be much fun for him, but I think he lasts the distance, and has a chance.
Didn't expect this.... Ive been trying to say this... the fighter you are fighting has a lot to do w a performance... but you can't discredit the winners performance either... Roy hasn't let his hands go like that in 6 years. He didnt have to throw a 20 punch combination... He HASNT in 6 years.. against ANYONE.. but he did... and it was the fastest combination in boxing right now.
I would be willing to compare the speed and ridiculousness of that combo, to anyone elses.
Both fighters can win this fight. Id love to see 60 to the winner.

I hope your wrong this time LOL
I've been hoping for the Adamek fight since it was originally discussed because I feel it would be much more significant.
Never thought about that. Figures a guy from Pa would say something intelligent though. I wonder why BHop(also from PA) is actin all bitchmade about the fight all of a sudden. I honestly think he'd beat Roy in a close fight.
Edit:Why the **** is Bhop worried about the losers stakes? Thats damn near accepting defeat again...

No... Bernard fans like to use the excuse that Hopkins was a MW his entire career... but then with the Pavlik fight, they want to talk about how coming down 5 lbs was a big deal to 170.
Berto is beefing Ocho cinco now?
Pressed is a respectful manner for an old ass man 17 years older than him to come down 5 pounds in hopes of sapping him.
Better?.

Again, nobody MADE Bernard do anything...

pavlik was and still is a 160 fighter
that 166lb taylor rematch was an exception
PLUS, we all know how sluggish/lethargic kelly looked at 166
oh, oscar, tito and winky also moved up for this phenomenon of an old man
:unitedsta:unitedsta:unitedsta
He looked like he beat Taylor the second time to me. Also he didn't look lethargic at all. Taylor decided to use his small ass brain for once and box with a stronger guy with more power and stamina istead of trading.
Beer 40 dollars, pizza 30 dollars. PPV fight 60 dollars. Watching Hopkins beat the shit out of Pavlik and piss off a bunch of skin headed hillbllies....priceless.

He came up 4 pounds from 166, he was also a 4-1 favorite. Pavlik made an old ass geezer lose 5 pounds

let's disregard that said cat came up 10 pounds for the first time ever in his oh so illustrious career

Beating cats you can father is pretty damn impressive. Watch How Lamply goes from Pavlik cheerleader mode in the begining of the Pavlik fight to Hopkins ass kisser comparing it to Foreman vs Moorer at the end of the telecast. I love if when fighters make Lamply put down the pom poms and get on his knees. A la Margarito Cotto and...................... Chavez vs Taylor. :crying::crying:.

hopkins has singlehandedly changed boxing with his wins over elite boxers at his advanced age

Not at all. Roy was coming off a Trinidad win, and Calzaghe just mad e a name for himself, and they had a 24/7 which increased the buyrate. Hopkins was seen as a sacrificial lamb against Pavlik and was coming off a controversial loss. Also no one expected the fight to sell well.
We could compare numbers all day. Also Hopkins vs Tarver sold more than Jones vs Tarver 1.
Yeah we could go all night.... fortunately, we ve already gone all day
bout to roll another blunt
A contender in taylor? He was ranked at the top... undefeated... and it was for the MW championship.
If Jones doesnt sell more... than Joe-Roy wouldnt of done more than Bernard Pavlik.
And Joe Bernard would of been on PPV... point blank.
Forget who knows JOE... if Bernard sells more than even ROY... it would of been PPV.
And HBO ALSO, would HAVE.. had a 24/7....
But they didnt.
