his 2 fights at 135 why if he were to lose ANY OF THEM IT WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER FOR HIM. I BELIEVE OSCAR SET HIM UP TO LOSE TO JUAN DIAZ BUT IT BACK FIRE. THEY THOUGHT JMM WAS GOING TO LOSE TO JUAN DIAZ ON THE CARDS BUT HE GOT THE KO SO NO BULLSH#@T SCORE CARDS
I find his two wins at 135 more significant.
Although his two fights with Pacquiao opened up boxing fans eyes to Marquez ( Marquez deserved the second fight imo ), his two stoppage wins against very good fighters in Casamayor who was the current Ring champ at the time and held wins over the likes of Nate Campbell, Diego Corrales and Juan Diaz who was the former undisputed champ at 135.
What made these wins more impressive was that Marquez stopped them, making him the first man to stop both men.
With those wins he became the undisputed champ at 135. :boxing:

The four fights are equally significant. Regardless if if Many is considered the vast superior. Regardless of the fact, Juan and CasaM. where quality fighter, with a different style, and weight advantage. Victories over both helps JJM grow as a fighter, and reinforce his ring knowledge.
This is a much needed experience to fall back on, if he wants to take on Money May.
he made a name fighting pac. no disrespect to jmm and his fans, but without pac, jmm might still be relatively unknown up to this day. and i think his biggest accomplishment is with his 2 fights at lightweight beating 2 good fighters that has never been stopped before :cool2:
All i know is every boxing writer had marquez winning Both fights with Pac.... and Marquez's wins since then has been more significant than Pacs too.
Every writer... wow.. not every writer had Marquez winning Infact alot of them agreed with the 2 fights.
his 2 fights with pac.. even he got knockdown for me he is still the better boxer and the more skilled.. pac is just gifted with power and speed but skillwise and technical marquez beats him. :D
I think his two fights with Manny definitely set up his title shots at 135lbs.
JMM did beat him twice.
Won more rounds too.
The first fight was more clear than the second imo. Faulty first round scoring aside, JMM won pretty much every round from 2-12.
This is an appreciation thread for JMM, this is not a hate thread for either fighters, so pls dont do this!! And to say that Marquez won 11 rounds to 1 round of Manny is dumb and idiotic, the judges scored it a draw!!! So are you implying that the judges went out for a break during the 4th to the last round?!! Both are elite fighters willing to fight each other anytime, try to appreciate them both..
All four of these fights were pretty amazing victories for marquez. Well in my opinion that is. In all 4four of these we see two men fighting their hardest and one man that being marquez figure out the other fighters strategy and just stright up fight the best fight a fighter could so to combat it. Hes such a smart guy, thats not something that can be taught, its natural. The pac fights did open the worlds eyes to just how good marquez could be. Fighters like him need great opposition to bring the best out of them. This is why i feel marquez vs mayweather will be a great fight.
The 2 wins are more significant since they're actually wins. But long after he's gone from this world JMM will be defined by his 2 or possibly 3 fights with Pacquiao
On the other side, JMM on Mannys resume doesnt mean much.
But a loss to Manny on JMMs resume is gold... weird how that works
that's not totally true, JMM on Manny's resume, specifically the second fight legitimizes PAC's third lineal belt ...
also they where top 1 & 2 at FW & SFW when they fought...
It's sad he didn't get at least one of those decisions. His 135lb massacre was impressive. He became a liner and unified champ there. A great accomplishment.
End of thread, seriously, while Pacman beat Diaz, the weakest champ,Marquez put in major work at 135!!:boxing:
I think the Manny fights gave JMM the motivation to KTFO Casamayor and Diaz... His fights at Lightweight were very significant in that he became World Lightwieght Champion by knocking out the two best fighters in the division, who BTW, had never been previously stopped. And these are his ONLY two fights in the division.
I considered the draw a robbery.
:chomp::chomp:
I might have to look back at the fight but technically apart from the first 2 rounds--Pacquiao would've only needed three more rounds out of the next 10 rounds to make a draw. But here's the thing--one of the judges scored the first round a 10-7 rather than a 10-6, which would've given Pacquiao the nod. So while Pacquiao lost more rounds to Marquez in the end the three knockdowns should've superseded it.
