Mine was De La Hoya vs. Mayweather. Before that I didnt know anyone who had HBO and could not watch live boxng on regular tv, I had to settle with replays on ESPN classic. After that I was hooked. The guy I watched that fight with has been a boxing fanatic since 1990 and has taped every fight he has ever watched and let me borrow all the fights he had which had to be between 400-500 fights. Now that I think about it its kind of a weird fight to make someone a die hard boxing fan but it did. What was your first fight?
Was a Mike Tyson fight against a bum that quitted after being hit by 5 punches or less.
I was like 5 years old.
Was it former light heavyweight champ Michael Spinks? Or Bruce Seldon?
Mine was memorable, the "Thrilla in Manila", and there's not much peeps out here who can say they saw that fight live. I just turned 15 a week prior to the fight and my parents knew I'm into boxing since we've got a neighbor who was a world champion. I got a ticket from my parents as a gift!
It was a DLH fight on network TV, I don't remember the opponent. It was a Mexican cholo type guy, I didn't really get hooked there though. The build up to DLH vs Chavez and watching Barrera on network TV in LA got me pretty hooked.
The first fight live on TV i watched was Bruno vs Tyson 2 round a mates house when i was a kid, The first fight i went live though was Danny Williams vs Matt Skelton 2 lol.
Actually no it was 2003. I was staying in London one night and I saw that boxing was on Sky Sports so I said alright I'm bored I'll check this out.
I see this american fighter coming to the ring, then I see this Welsh guy. And then I see the best fight I'd seen (up to that point) - Calzaghe vs Byron Mitchell. And I was a boxing and Calzaghe fan after that lol
The one that I remember clearly is Chris Eubank and Steve Collins.
But I know that my family were watching Eubank, Benn and Hamed fights before that. So I'm sure I was around to watch them too.
But I didn't really get into boxing until much later, around 2004.
Yea I know someone who knows someone who works for HBO...I got into Cotto-Clottey as well although I was in the nosebleed seats.
Good fight though...
I've been able to meet a good amount of fighters as well...Hopkins, Calzaghe, Evander, Lennox, and Winky Wright...got pics wit them as well, except Joe
eff you, man. eff you!
what was hopkins/evander like? i picture lennox to be just like he is on tv and calzaghe to be a lot cooler/less cocky then he is.
trinidad-delahoya. my brother and my neighbors were diehard mexican boxers so i got into watching it at a young age but never took up on watching it on my own until 2005ish and i began watching all the older fights.

Damn you I am jealous, lol
Lucky you. Even if the fight wasnt all that great, I have never been lucky enough to go to a fight, especially for free.

I don't remember exactly but I became a hardcore fan around 2005...I remember watching Hopkins-Taylor I...I'll never forget Bernard's face lol
In person the first fight I've ever seen was Jones-Calzaghe...I didn't pay for that shit though.
