alot of people say this when referring to pac, whether to add greatness to him or to insult a bigger opponent.
but if your really think about it, he was what? 16/17 years old, like 5 feet tall, and poor and hungry as hell in a country that doesent have much to offer, but offers fighters to be able to turn pro at age 16 to make a living. so in a way, there are alot of former 108lb'ers out there that at one point in their teens could make 108. shoot, i think mayweather could make 108 when he was 16.
It's pretty impressive how a tennager can win a world title, get knocked out twice, and becoming even bigger and better, while being in the top 10 P4P and then the best P4P fighter in the world
It's as if Saul Alvarez wins a title now and 10+ years later is #1 P4P even though he's fighting at 175. Or if Fernando Vargas could have still been a top P4P fighter. Or if Juan Diaz could come back from his 2 losses and become a P4P fighter again and stay that way up until he gets to 168.
To a extent yes. Like people have said he was only 16 years of age. The likes of Mayweather, De La Hoya etc weighed similar weights at that age........
But I think it was just because Manny was a Pro fighter........
who the hell cares where he started. I'm watching where he is now. If he can make 106 now I'll stfu until then quit making excuses
He was just 6 pounds above that weight at the age of 20. I don't think it matters now but it should be noted.
I just checked, pacquiao weighed 145 against Marquez on fight night. I was off by 2 lbs, but 16 lbs is a pretty heavy amount, if you ask me. About as much as corrales or caballero
People forget Pacquiao was usually the bigger man in the ring until he started fighting DLH/Hatton
Duh.. it doesnt change the fact that he was fighting pros and PBF was fighting amatuers.. and that's why pac's story is so amazing..
i think those bums pac fought were less skilled at times then the amateurs mayweather fought
at 130 pac was coming in at 140-3... not 18 lbs. his opponents were putting as much weight as him. he never grossly outweighed his opponents.
not like cotto will have 10+ lbs on pac on fight night.

And pacquiao was huge for 130, he was gaining about 18 lbs overnight...just because he wasn't super tall for his weight like the other two doesn't mean he wasn't big for his weight
regardless, his resume of wins means much more than his weight jumping anyway

no... corrales was huge for a lightweight. caballero is huge for a 122 lber.

I donttt know about overrated, but it is used in the wrong context a lot. The guy was huge for 130, and he didn't do anything at 108 anyway...simply put, thsres no way you could call him a natural 108 lber, and I don't think you could call growing an accomplishment...His world class success at various weights is another subject...

Wasn't he a flyweight only 10 years ago? Think about that for a moment.
When PBF was 108-112 he's losing to an Amateur Martin Castillo & 5 other amateurs.
Pac lost 2 fights at 112 but that was against Professional much older than him. But He has a KO win over the Lineal 112 Champion at 19. Floyd still losing fights when he was 19 against amateurs.
floyd was fighting much harder opposition in the amateurs than pac was in the pros. your acting like pac was fighting elite professional fighters or some shit, if you dont know, there are tons of registered professional fighters that are BUMS. and if you look into all of the elites of the sport that have an amateur career, they all lost fights, its the ****ing amateurs yo.
Call him a LW if you want, but yea, the former 108 lber thing is old. It's relevant to his overall career, but not in the context of his current fights, which is how it often gets used.
